Re: best guitar solos in the world?
There are too many amazing guitar solos to list... one could argue hundreds if not thousands imho... that could arguably be the best ever. To me... the best guitar solo's fit the song... NOW if you are talking live solos where the guitarist was just showing talent and putting together an amazing jam for a show not necessarily trying to fit into a song, that would bring up a different list.
I decided to google it and found myself at Guitar World looking at their list of the top 50. http://www.guitarworld.com/50-greatest-guitar-solosI could easily add another 100 to that and have a GREAT argument for each one I added imho...
Not one jam from Rik Emmett.. are you f++king kidding me? For top 50 and he didn't even make #50... there are SOOO many more guitarists that SHOULD make that list when I look at who did make it. Narrow minded guitarists were voting on that top 50 ALTHOUGH I totally agree that they ALL deserve recognition for the "awesomeness" of each one!!!
Gary Richrath has a few that should be mentioned.... a few at least.
Alex Lifeson ... ok, playing with Geddy and Neil made it harder for him to shine for obvious reasons BUT... not one in that top 50... you have got to be kidding me...
Also 2 Randy solos on that list... neither Revelation Mother Earth... that solo is AMAZING but not good enough for top 50... /slap the voters and ask.. are you f++kin' kidding me?!!! Just because the song wasn't a radio hit don't mean that solo isn't amazing... not long enough? Whatever...
I could go on... and on... and on... but I won't.
Also, just to throw out a deserved mention. I know some classical riffs that should actually take the top 5 of that list and imho Randy and Rik have 2 classical guitar jams that I wouldn't put in the top 5 BUT they would beat a few of those top 50 imho. But what do I know... I've only been playing guitar for 32 years after taking piano lessons for 4 years.

Billy Gibbons " Cheap Sunglasses " a perfect example of playing only the sweet notes and anything by Gary Moore.
Don't forget Jeff Beck, Brian May, Jimi etc...
