Hey, y'all. Well... It's really tough to tell how it went.First and foremost, I had a blast. I knew that if I got a good reaction from the crowd with that opening line (I played "One Step Removed"), I'd be fine. I was fine. The awkward part is that their system has evolved. When I auditioned 25 years ago (Lord have mercy I'm old...), it was all based on Barbara's ears and her gut feelings as to who got through and who didn't. This morning there was a panel of 8 judges (all from NSAI) sitting there taking notes. Wow. These guys are SERIOUS. NOW comes the hard part. We won't find out if we made it onto the stage for another month, and even if we DID, we won't actually perform for another 6-8 months. These writer's nights feature a total of 8 writers who get to do three songs each, and there were nearly 70 people auditioning this morning. The next audition isn't until November; so I can tell you right now that if I do NOT get through the "screeners", I'll be right back up there auditioning again. Thanks for all the good vibes.Ted

You did good! I knew you would! It's all about song selection (well, and pulling it off the way we want, lol). Here's a question.....afta you get in (I know you will!) and you do the 3-song 'in-the-round' with other writers......where's the gimme? Is it fo prestige or do you make contacts or how does that all work? This is fascinating stuff ta me.

Used to be, you could do yourself a lot of good playin' the Bluebird; nowadays, I ain't so sure it's worth the trouble, but it still looks great on the resume.

The Sunday writers nights aren't an "in the round" situation. Everyone gets a number and the mc (who is it now, Ted?) introduces that person who gets up and plays his/her 3 songs. Then the next person plays. Then the next, etc. etc. They used to say that the way a writer got an actual "round" (an early show during the week) was based on the waitstaff's votes based on how many people that artist brought in to watch and eat and drink and spend money at the Sunday night writers nights. I know people who have played a dozen Sunday nights and still haven't gotten a round. You don't want to be scheduled for a Super Bowl Sunday. You don't want to be scheduled for a holiday weekend. You pray that if you're scheduled for a January Sunday that there's no snow. It's a tough gig, the Bluebird. I stand in awe of those who audition!Claire

I wish you the best of luck Ted! The thing i, it sounds like it would be easier to open your own Cafe and play it than to wait six months for a half dozen judges to bestow their omnipotent blessings on who ever they deem worthy. Still, it sounds like this is very important to you so I'll say with all sincerity...... knock 'em dead!Mewman
