I can't fly right now because of certain health reasons, but I might could drive. I would have to drive by myself.....hubby doesn't have much vacation time left, so he couldn't make it. It would cost a fortune in gas, so when all is said in done, I probably won't be able to make it....my finances just aren't that great lately. I still think it would be cool though.....driving across the desert and other types of terraine..... seeing the whole countryside....a most excellent adventure. I'd be Thelma without Louise. And of course, I'd get to meet y'all when the trip is over....it's sure better than having to drive off a cliff in the end, although it would be cool to be able to meet a young Brad Pitt along the way. Have you thought of the train? If you get a roommette all your meals are included, and they have that nice club car with wine & cheese every afternoon. I find it's cheaper than flying. Of course it takes longer, but if you were planning to drive it would likely take a while & you'd have to pay for gas, meals and motels too.Vikki and KG, a train is a wonderful idea, but I'd have to have my car for certain reasons I won't go into, hehe. If that were not the case, I'd certainly take a train, great idea.

If we all drive there, I guess is really would be a ROAD RALLY, lol... Maybe we could have designated locations along the way with Internet access for people to check in...

Could do pickups along the way. Start in New York, weave drunkenly up and down the states pickin up Rally-ers.Hmmm. By the time we got to California, we'd have a convoy (ooh, images of Kris Kristofferson! Yay!) LOLAnyway, I gotta quit gettin my hopes up. There's been a lil snag with transfer of airmiles so it might not work. I'm bein positive but don't wanna feel crushed if I can't make it. And I'll be happy to read all about everyone's exploits like last year, that was fun too.

Anne, re those prices you posted - it costs 50% less for you guys to fly from NEW YORK to LA (across country, 2778 miles), than it would cost for me to fly from VICTORIA to LA (1000 miles)

It ain't cheap flyin west from the southeast either. The prices weren't terribly bad for someone with means but certainly outta my range. I hope you still going bird. I know those costs are painful. On a happier note, I jes got word from Bob Mete tonight (who went far above and beyond the call) and I'm definitely GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So everybody start yo upper bod workouts now, I'm expectin some serious hug-ons when I get there!
