The Gauge arrived this morning.I am very impressed! There is a clarity to my vocals with the Gauge that I really like. Pretty amazing for the retail price of this microphone. Also like the fit and finish. It looks very well built and solid. Thanks so much. I will recommend it for sure.

Guess that's what I get for stuffing myself in the studio for the past three months and missing threads like this one!! You're a gem, Rob-- that sure was sweet of you!!In fact, I do already have one of your mics from last year’s Rally—what a deal! It's become my quick "go to" mic for recording backup vocals and instrumentals, and it's by far one of the best bargains as far as gear/equipment goes. It's no wonder you sold out at the Rally last year-- with prices like that (and it didn't hurt that your sales ladies were lovely!) you will surely sell millions! Loved your workshops and presentations at the past several Rally's too-- see you this fall!

Yes, I can say I'm impressed with this mic. When I'm finished working on one of the vocal songs I'm recording right now, I'll post it so you can hear what it does for my voice.

Got mine yesterday also... thanks Rob!!! Didn't realize you get a pop filter too.. that's a deal!!! Haven't dug in deep with it yet but so far it has a nice warm sound to it compared to my R0DE NT1000. I'm going to use it on some upcoming demos!

You know, what Rob did here was too cool for me to just accept and say, "sweet, now I have two, lucky me." So in the spirit of Rob's benevolent gesture, I "re-gifted" my Gauge to a very talented producer I know who has been very down on his luck due to a balance disorder that has kept him in a very precarious financial position. To be honest, I was starting off thinking "sweet, now I have two, lucky me." And I put one up for sale because I needed the money. But when this producer expressed interest in buying it, I took a hard look at myself and realized I couldn't do it. So I just shipped it off to him, no strings attached. When a stand-up guy like Rob Chiarelli sets that karma wheel in motion, I figure it's best just to keep it rolling. Thanks once again, Rob...this time for teaching me a lesson I need to re-learn time and time again. -Mark

Dear Rob, Welcome to our forum.I read your post and made lot of sense to me. As I live in London it has been very difficult to attend the rally so far but as I herd a lot about the ECM87 on this forum I would like very much to own one. I am not a vox man but I would be using it for recording acoustic guitar. So is there a way I can buy it from here!!RegardsTINO

From what I was told Taxi members get a discount. Might want to check into it.

Y'know, this mic is a steal, and I wanna thank Rob once again for Gauges' kind offer! So far, I've used it on guitar amp, acoustic guitar, and vocals. I'm sure a pair would be wonderful on drum overheads as well. One thing I noticed on 'my' voice is that I may have to use the internal bass roll-off switch (?) because I love to "eat" a large diaphram condenser mic. How do you use that switch? I'm sure it's a simple process, but I'm brain-dead currently! A/B mic history: About 15 years ago (I've told this story before), I was looking in the local newspaper and saw "Garage Sale: Mic Stands, Box fan" etc. So it turned out that the old lady had a whole bunch of junk, but that her late husband was a TV/Movie soundman. My drummer and I rummaged through her garage, and WOAH! We found a pair of perfect Sennheiser K2-U condenser shotgun mics! Now don't get down on me, it was a garage sale, but she sold us the mics at $5 apiece! So I A/B'd the Guage on 'my' vocal and they sounded pretty similar. The Guage was a little warmer and bigger, the Sennheiser was a little clearer and crispier. But, Sennheiser small diaphragm shotgun mikes are around $1000 these days! --- So there's my report on my vocals!Have Fun,Ern

Hey Ern,the hi pass switch seems to be an 'undocumented' feature. You have to open the mic body up to get to it. Un screw the bottom bezel, where the xlr connection is, and that will allow you to remove the cylindrical ferrule that comprises the body. This will expose the circuit board which has a small blue button. Press it in and it's engaged.I have 2 ECM87's so I keep one with and one w/o the hp filter on.HTH
