Suz,I have experienced a ruptured disc (along with the surgery to fix it) so I can vouch for the extreme pain and suffering your daughter is experiencing. I, too, have a 25 year old daughter and feel your pain in helplessly watching your child suffer. Regardless of your child's age, it's torture for a parent to see them hurt.I'm sending good thoughts your way and wishing your daughter a speedy and full recovery.Steve

Oh Suz, I'm so sorry to hear about this, and you and Lyris have been added to my healing prayers. May her recovery be solid and even faster than her doctors may predict. Miracles can happen, and that's where we're going to aim for your dear Lyris. Love and blessings to you both!Raags

Thank you so much, you amazing musical cohorts! Your kindness has given me (and Lyris) so much comfort right now.She had a rough day with the neurologist today, topping off a week of progressively bad days, which really had me scared.After 2 days of intense neurological testing with a rather brusque doc (he must have gotten a "D" in sensitivity in med school), Lyris called sounding overwhelmed, frustrated and somewhat disoriented.I canceled my afternoon students and was preparing to head North to help her out (she lives 1-1/2 hours north of here), when, she called back and -- BINGO -- she began to sound like her regular self again (still in pain, but mentally clear again and able to find a sense of humor about the situation and hope for making progress).After almost a week of watching her seem to worsen and lose hope -- it was miraculous to see her make such a sudden improvement today.I'm realistic in knowing her healing process will have ups and down and will take some time; but I know that the outpouring of love and support you have so generously offered us had a hand in my amazing daughter's turnaround today.Thank you again for this gift.In gratitude,SuzP.S. Lyris's name means "as of the lyre" (the greek harp); her last name is Cooper (which means barrel maker) . . . which seem to fit her personality -- very creative musically and artistically (she's a writer & filmmaker), but also grounded and practical (best editor in the West!)P.S.S. Lyris and I write comedy sketches and create wacky characters, one of whom is Dr. Marvin Monroe, a loud, annoying, gruff-voiced sensitivity and relaxation workshop leader and meditation instructor whose voice is akin to fingernails on a blackboard. We often call each other using voices ala Marvin Monroe and his -- just as grating voiced -- family members. Usually it cracks us up. However, last week, even Marvin couldn't elicit a laugh from Lyris. That's when I knew she wasn't doing well. Today, we assigned the Marvin Monroe traits to her less than nurturing neurologist. And -- voila! She laughed again. Whew! That's when I knew things would be okay. So Marvin Monroe has become our litmus test for how things are going in the wonderful world of Post-Concussion/ Ruptured disc recovery . . . { Big hugs of gratitude, again, to all of you . . }
