Right you are Billy! The Pretender, Jackson spells his name wrong so I disowned him and James is my son.

I have heard that the line about the junk man pounding his fender (Fender?) could be a reference to a player who gives up on his big dream and settles for routine, mundane session work.

Like a lazy flowing river
Surrounding castles in the sky
And the crowd is growing bigger
List’nin’ for the happy sounds
And I got to let them fly

Fun song about something we all enjoy.

Hmmm,

For some reason Jimmy Hendrix keeps popping into my head?

Bridge to "Listen To The Music" by the Doobie Brothers.

Ha! Ern Eubanks got one, methinks! --- Reminds me of the first band recording I was ever involved in. We did it on a 4-track, and each of the 3 lead singers in the group sang one song. I chose "Long Train Running" by the Doobie Bros. Thought I did a pretty good vocal, until after I mixed down the tunes. Our drummer said "John, do you know who you sound like vocally?" I said no. He said "Walter Brennan!" :o  --- Oh the shame!

HaHaHa! Yes, actually I do! But --- what did I win?

Don Pardo: "Ern you have your choice! Either this 5-DVD set ---

OR, this fantastic bottle of aged bourbon --- " (Stage whisper: "If I know Ern Eubanks like I think I do, he's gotta for for the booze - heheh!")

Woah! Booze is the big thing around these parts! HeHeHeh!

Stephanie and I do a LOT of drinking during the Rose Bowl broadcasts! That certainly ain't Starbucks in that cup!:

Here's a lyric that Steph and I have grown to like:

"Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by"

MAN, that just makes me cry! WHO WROTE THIS LYRIC?

One of my all time favorite Artists Ern :D

Tom Petty - Wild Flowers

I wasn't a big fan of Wild Flowers when it first came out, but it has grown on me over the years.

Jen --- YOU ARE CORRECT! That is one of the best "sounding" albums of all time! "Wildflowers" was recorded over 15 years ago, down the road from me at SOUND CITY in Van Nuys, CA. It was totally analog, on an old 24-track recorder and (I believe) a Neve console. --- Other classic recordings from that room include "Nevermind" by Nirvana. It's an OLD studio, but must have that vibe! I've rehearsed my band there, but never got to see the recording studio.

SO WHAT DOES JEN WIN?

Don Pardo: "Jen wins an all-paid vacation for 2 to --- Los Angeles! Yes, Jen, you and a guest will be staying at ERN'S CONDO in Chatsworth, when Ern and his wife are away on their own vacation! 2 pools, 2 jacuzzis, the whole California lifestyle will be yours! --- The only thing is that you must like cats, because you'll have to take care of "Snagglepuss" and "Emmie" when John & Debra are out of town! Also, you will get to use a 1996 Audi A4 for traveling around Southern California! Have Fun!"

Ern 8-) :)
