Re: Minimalist Piano Instrumentals
I've copied a post from a thread on "peer to peer" regarding this listing...below...thanks to Zoom...Everyone submitting for the Minimalist Piano will want to read this... I emailed Erin and this was the response... Hope this helps!!!"This request isn’t for one particular project, but rather to fill the need for several projects on their plate right now. In terms of overall mood, you could simply focus on very sparse arrangements with the piano being the primary instrument. If there is additional instrumentation, just be sure that it is supporting the piano and not competing with it dynamically. Melodic and motive repetition that builds in a static, suspenseful way could be one way to go - melodic counterpoint and wide octave ranges rather than clustered, thick chord structures would be a great place to start. While a “minimalist” approach was specifically requested, you don’t have to try to create any type of soundalike to the artists referenced – they were merely mentioned as a starting point – a guide toward what the company would like to hear. If the piece is well crafted with emotional/dynamic elements that could be compelling for a Film/TV project, that will be the primary criteria – along with broadcast quality in the recording. You actually have quite a bit of breathing room here creatively, just be sure the arrangements are in keeping with the minimalist approach and the primary instrument featured is the piano.".....This kind of changes things....a lot, I think....makes me wonder if the song I originally posted at the beginning of this post, now works for this listing...here it is again:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=1Har

Re: Minimalist Piano Instrumentals
This is a composition of mine that has more than piano in it, but it is for piano. It has minute stops so it could be cut up and exactly what they are looking for. The problem is, there's some strings in it (and other instruments) that can easily be removed.Consider the section from 1:20 to 2:34 as a stand alone piece. Also from 2:36 to end.Sorry I haven't cut this piece up yet, but you can use your imagination. The supporting instruments are minimal as well.Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, Wighttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=147409&stream=1

They're looking for "very spare piano arrangements" The 1:20 to 2:34 section is lovely. I note they are also looking for "shifts in tone, instrumentation and dynamics", not sure if this fits that. I actually think the 2:34 section might a little more what they are looking for, but not sure if it's really on target as I wouldn't say it is "sparse", but I'd maybe take that section and submit it as a long shot. It's good, it's just, is it on target? ... and I lean towards "no". There is a "Dramatic Instrumentals" listing coming up that this might be better for.

Thanks!! http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=1Alex, I think that this piece is beautiful, but perhaps too beautiful and complicated to be considered minimalist.I would certainly submit it as an instrumental piano piece in a listing that is looking for that. I may be wrong, but the arpeggios, while beautiful, send it beyond minimalist.I said the same thing about Marcblack's post. Maybe I'm over-thinking this thing. Just my $.02Beautiful song though, like a tone poemWig

How did you record it?I'd have to agree with Hummingbird about the piece being bassy. Perhaps if you just recorded it one octave up you could lose that.Nice work, thoughWig

Re: Minimalist Piano Instrumentals
....though this really isn't relevant to the context of this topic, I thought it might still be interesting info for some, regarding Philip Glass and an upcoming movie score to a movie called DOUBT.....:Philip Glass: DoubtPhilip Glass is composing the original score for John Patrick Shanley's drama Doubt, starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Produced by Scott Rudin and to be distributed Miramax, the film is based on Shanley's own play and takes place in a Catholic school in 1964 Bronx, where a nun suspects a priest of abusing a black student. Philip Glass is also reuniting with Notes on a Scandal director Richard Eyre, scoring his new film The Other Man, a drama starring Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas and Laura Linney. The film is based on the short story by Bernhard Schlink.

Submissions are new to me. The learning curve rearing its ugly head again. I appreciate the help.I'll repost the stripped down version, hopefully later today. Deadline is the 14th on this one. Thanks again, Wig
