Brings back memories of eating Captain Crunch out of the box and beating up on my little brothers. Oh, man, I thought of that song a week ago, and was too embarrassed to post it! Who sang that, though? He's actually a really good singer.Since we're on the bubblegum train: Ern You guys are working overtime to remember the Archies. Never crossed my mind. I wasn't a big follower, but I did watch the show some while growing up.Ern, Ron Dante was the lead singer for The Archies. He ended up becoming a Producer and worked with some pretty big names (for the 70s), Barry Manilow, Ray Charles, Cher, John Denver, Pat Benatar...Not bad for a cartoon singer.Yummy - funny how many guys felt comfortable wearing scarves back then. Two or three guys in the band were wearing them. I never put one on--thankfully.

Sugar, Sugar was actually the #1 or #2 song for all of 1969 (depending on which chart you believe) beating out the Beatles, the Stones... all of 'em. Just goes to show that there's always been a market for schlock.Hank Thompson was a country singer known for such memorable hits as in the 50s and 60s as "Humpty Dumpty Heart" and "Rub-a-Dub-Dub". He sold over 60 million records. He died in 2007, and I actually got to play in his back-up band one night about 15 years ago in Prescott, Arizona. The great Bob Wills said of Hank, "If that guy ever runs out of nursery rhymes, he's finished". To be fair, Hank actually also had a couple of cool songs too, like "Six Pack to Go".Cam

(Love ya Neil --- just kiddin'!).I really love the lead vocalist's attitude. Did any other vocalists sing in such a low register back then, other than Eric Burdon (and of course, Muddy Waters)? Makes it real dark and sinister. And billg, I thought about the Seeds, but all their videos of that song are lip-synced. I really want to find a live video of "Pushin' Too Hard" to see if the background vocalists could sing even MORE out of tune than on the record! Ern

I heard he does some kind of damping to his bass so it doesn't ring long, like James Jamerson did.Ah --- One of my fave songs when I was a kid: "Tobacco Road" by The Nashville Teens! How about THAT bass sound? What kind of bass is that --- pretty fuzzy!Ern
