Re: ONOFFON
Another check of our MSN ONOFFON 'Similar Artists' page is today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day - they have included a few new artists to the list that weren't there before -MSN Music - Onoffonhttp://music.msn.com/artist/list.aspx?artist=16405342&type=1New additions include Gentle Giant, Rick Wakeman, Frank Zappa, Traffic, and King Crimson. Yeah, I know, none of these guys is currently on any charts.Nevertheless, to even be compared in the slightest way to any of these artists is the finest compliment I could ask for....

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a review from a listener/reviewer/artist from the SoundClick BBs - he listened to all three on our page over there and had this to say -"Mardi GrasWhich one of you guys is off? I'm not hearing it. Everybody is smoking on this one. The sax doing the head alone gets a little exposed. I'd like to hear him duped @ some point.Production is solid.Chops are rock solid. The delay on the sax is sweet. I love the percussion being answered by the sax. Lovin' it, bro! ShadowglassAt first the 5/4 was a bit inaccessible, but felt natural once the flute came in.Production-wise the attack on the guitar (esp on the hammer-ons) detracts a bit from the "tight-ness" of the groove.Nice little stabs in the background. You guys are tasteful, I would mucked up having this many instruments at any given time. The verb is lush, what are you using?I like how the dirty guitar comes into it. Out of the soup, if you will. Great use of harmonics. Dissonance makes this otherwise pleasant groove turn evil. Not a bad thing =) Another great tune. Wish I had access to flute on demand!Weekend in MontrealLove the 16ths between the hi-hat and ride on this on.Starts very aggressive. Then mellows out for a while.I love the chromatic descending part with the 16ths. Madness. The contrast is certainly there, first you go from the madness to a Rock ballad tempo. The next time, it is almost adult contemporary, although the tempo crescendo behind the solo lifts you out of it. You start to flange the bass and bring it up in the mix, being a bassist I was glad to hear it.Ends too soon.GIMME MORE MADNESS!Kudos, guys. If you played near me, I would go see you.For now, I will just sit here & covet your horn players-K"Thanks K!!! Man - would I like to take this band on tour - opening for someone like Bela Fleck or King Crimson or Steely Dan or Dave Matthews...

Re: ONOFFON
Mixposure now has chosen a 'Review Crew' to review and rate music and help their charts gain credibility - for today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day, I'm posting our first two RC reviews on our song, "The Gift Must Always Move" -RC Reviews for The Gift Must Always Move by ONOFFONhttp://www.mixposure.com/song.php?songid=762 Reviewed by: paulnery - 3/16/2005 "Beautiful Intro I really liked the intro of this song, beautiful guitar sound! It reminded me the style of Jan Akkerman (Focus) .... The quality of the recording is amazing, it's a very well produced track. The mixing is very clear, all the instruments sound very well on my speakers. Great performance of the musicians... It's like listening to those great progressive bands of the seventies! Congrats, excellent work!" Reviewed by: Joe King - 3/13/2005 "It moves Just awesome work! The clean guitar and progressions for the first half of the song were exquisite, and I wasn't expecting it to move into the extremely cool direction that it did!The delayed guitar lead, and the build that occurs in the rhythm is fantastic! And then the release from that section, WOW!So many guitar sounds coming at me from all directions. I got into this!"Thanks to Paul and Joe for such excellent comments on one of my personal favorites...

Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is another OMD we've just recently been added to - the German based website, Callasong.de, in hand with our page at InterConnected, has added ONOFFON to their archives -Callasong - ONOFFONhttp://www.callasong.de/band/music.php?id=36708Pretty much a mirror page using IC's database but, as I always say, "If some's good - more's better..."

Re: ONOFFON
Thanks MAS Nashville! I appreciate the kind words... I have a different ONOFFON SSP of the Day today. This would have been my father's 84th birthday if he were still with us and in honor of that occasion, I'll share a cool picture with Harry in it -It's a publicity still from the 1947 movie, "A Song Is Born". In the foreground, from left to right, is Charlie Barnet, Louis Armstrong, Danny Kaye, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, and Virginia Mayo. Over Benny's and Lionel's shoulder is Harry and the headstock of his bass. Just for the record, the drummer (only his knee can be seen) is Louis Bellson. I have posted this in many places, but never more appropriately than today...So, wherever you may be, raise a toast to Harry...

Re: ONOFFON
Here's a twist -Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is another addition to my resume - I'm going to start producing radio shows - for a network that supplies programming for AM and FM stations throughout the world. Ultimately, my format will be centered around the archival history of 'Jazz in Hollywood' - but I intend to broadcast current directions of the contemporary scene as well. And not just jazz - my father and his buddies were always experimenting with different musical ideas - pushing the envelope. Anything that displays musical viruosity. I'll start with a fifteen minute show, then 30, then maybe an hour. I haven't decided. When I know broadcast and air info, I'll post it. Who knows - it may be a station near you...

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is another casual listener review, posted on the SoundClick BBs, on our song, "Weekend in Montreal" -------------------------------------------------------------------------ONOFFON - Weekend in Montreal Reviewed by Midge Mckay"I took a browse through the songs and picked Weekend In Montreal, a jazz fusion record guest starring Glen Garrett on saxophone. The song starts out real jazz, a flurry of notes, and sounds really good. My favourite quote about jazz fusion is that it's like a soft fence - there are boundaries, but you can bennnddd them if you do it right. Glen certainly does this, and the rhythm section in the background is just perfect for it, with a fast tempo and a hurried sound. I really like this, and when it slows down and mellows, there's the amazing sound of saxophone and rhythm coming together - I'd liken it to cruising on a motorbike early in the morning, when there's no traffic around and you're one with the road; here, the listener can become one with the song. The song turns again into more flurries of notes, the bass here really comes through too. The song slows down to its end, and it finishes very nicely. I can't find any criticism of this song, it is very well produced and has a very professional polish to it, extremely well mastered and balanced. The musicianship is incredible, especially the rhythm section. I'm not surprised to see you on so many stations - you'll be added to mine too!"Our sincere thanks to Midge for taking the time to post such a fine review...

Re: ONOFFON
A truly magnificent review of our album, "Your Mind", is today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day. It's written by the head of the International Online Music Magazine, who are gaining an industry reputation for their International Online Music Awards, given annually - here's the link and his opening thoughts -ONOFFON CD Review - March 2005Your Mind reviewed by Colin Lynchhttp://www.dgmpublishing.com/IOM/CDReviewsOnOffOn.htm"Who remembers excellence in composition, musicianship, and production? The kind of excellence that is usually awarded a Platinum presentation disc by the RIAA and a standing ovation when the band arrive on stage to collect their award by a scantily clad supermodel on behalf of the record industry?"It sounds to me like he liked it... you must click over and continue reading what he says... sincere thanks to Colin for his wonderful review of our music...
