will you earn more than $50,000 this year (2008) from music placements?we can delete this in a couple of minutes, if you want Quote:up till now, all tracks are assigned to the shared publishing companyno contract at all (seriously, none)can write alone or with others anytime (i do 99% of the time)I currently have produced 75% of our combined catalogue alone---this is why I'd like a bit more of our publishing Quote:Well, JK, you are extremely prolific. I've been reading your posts for the last couple of months. Is everything you write automatically assigned to the publishing entity that you've created? Do you have any contractual obligations to your partner to only write with him? Or that everything you write is automatically assigned to your partnership? Can you simply start writing alone, or with other new partners, from this point on?t

well, does it REALLY matter to get more of your publishing, are you just pissed off that you're doing more work than he is? cause it's impossible to tell how much his contributions matter, and he might well think they're worth more than you do. is this the case?Have you tried to negotioate by offereing him stuff he'd like, so that you can have most of what you want? You might wanna delete your last post now, you might start getting a lot more offers to co-write than you can handle hehe but thx for sharing.Quote:ok I'm back---- $40,000+ in 2007 for music placements.... I swear I'm not complaining!!!!

I would have made about $...... more this year if I self publised, but I'm not pissed (actually counting my blessings!!!). I can honestly say our non-composing duties are close to even. Composing eats up the hours like nothing else--phone calls to music supervisors are short and easy. ( I do LOVE my composing time though!!) I'm trying all kinds of negotiations-- we're old friends and he's a ball buster!

Well, you just need some more partners, co-writing and pitching new stuff with and for you. You done better than 95% of the people on this forum. It's also time for you to kick it up a notch. It's pretty easy for you to have what you want, it's just gonna take time. Feeling patient? You need to write another 500 tunes. ready set go...but in the long run, the grass may not be greener, because it's the pitching, IMHO, that requires the most amount of knowledge, at least from my perspective. I really do understand why you feel that the composing should be worth more than the publishing. But, you didn't set your agreement up that way. Do all the things, the way you wanna do them, from now on. Can you buy out your partner? well all I have to say is welcome to the club of maniacal writersI had to let go of all my publishing on my band's CD, once upon a time, just so the band could avoid a legal battle, the band won, but broke up anyway. I was left with nothing but memories from that particular chapter of my career, so what...if you're writing like mad, in another 10 years, this temporary hassle you're facing will become a distant mouse fart in the wind.cause you're rolling man, best of luckQuote:I'm a tune writing maniac!! and i'm patient (this thing to years of hard work to get rollin!!) any other suggestions for kickin it up a notch?
