East West Orchestra Upgrade
Looks like the Play version is coming out soon:http://www.soundsonline.com/EastWest-Qu ... -177.htmlI have some other Play libraries and they work pretty well but they want a lot of CPU. If you have East West Orchestra software, they have a special upgrade price until the end of the month. I'm not a salesman for East West, just passing on the info for anyone who might want to take advantage of the special offer.Cheers,Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
Hey Mazz, Do you know what the real advantages of the Play engine would be over the current one, (I believe its called kontact)? I'm a little reluctant to upgrade when the package I've got is already working unless someone with some real-world experience can tell me the upside.Thanks--

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
If you purchased EW Orchestra between Jan 18, 2007 thru Oct 31, 2007, then the upgrade is FREE, just pay shipping, maybe $20...I also have Symphonic Choirs, which I look forward to a play upgrade. My understanding is that the Play upgrade has some enhancements with articulations, which I'm really looking forward to...Must order by June 30th though, or the price goes up....link to it is here:http://www.soundsonline.com/Symphonic-O ... .htmlHarry

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
I'm a satisfied user of EWQLSO Gold Complete (bundle). I've also been considering the upgrade to Play version. However, I was less-than-delighted to find that one also is required to purchase EWQLSO's dongle in order to use the new software. So, it appears that I'm being offered an unparalleled opportunity to pay for the privilege of protecting their intellectual property. Unless I'm missing something here: Bummer. That having been said, I'd still like to hear from someone who has had hands-on experience with the Play edition. As djdweese so elegantly put it, "If it ain't broke...".-Alan (backtalkunlimited)

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
Hi Alan,No one has experience with the Play version of the orchestra software as it hasn't been released yet.Yes, bummer about the iLok but I guess they got tired of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars producing their products only to see them show up on illegal download sites. The upside is that the iLok will work with other software that uses it for copy protection. Also, the iLok has been the least intrusive of any of the other dongles that I have experienced.I do have some other Play libraries that were released earlier and the Play system works fine. They've worked out all of the little issues that came up when they first released it and it works pretty smoothly. I'm glad they didn't release the Play version orchestras first. Even if you don't plan on installing it right away, the special upgrade price is pretty darn reasonable and I think they've upgraded some of the articulations and hopefully fixed some of the little bugs that were in the Kontakt version. Given that I paid pretty much full price for the Platinum version when it came out, 99 bucks for the 24 bit upgrade is a steal!!Good to see you pop in around these parts!!Mazz

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
I just stumbled upon the following item, which was posted by "SH" on a Cakewalk Forum Board entitled "EWQLSO upgrade with EW/PACE iLok Security Key???". Quoting SH:* * *"Keep in mind, when you upgrade to PLAY, you lose your license to your original EWQLSO version. If you want to use your old software for your old projects, you must repurchase your original license. There was a heated debate on the EW forum regarding this. I was going to include the link but they deleted the thread (or I can't find it).It was "Upgrade to PLAY for ~$50 and relicense your old copy of EWQLSO [optional] for ~$50" and now, due to customer complaining its now "Upgrade to PLAY for $100 and do what ever you want with your old copy". (That's "use it or not" obviously) "* * *Uh-oh."Lucy, you got a lot of 'splainin' to do."-Alan (backtalkunlimited)

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
well the problem with dongles, is they cause latency, like seriously, I heard a rumor and benchmarked a cracked version of cubase vs my legit copy, and the cracked version was actually faster, which I am all for anti-piracy, and security. I think ripping off software companies is horrible, but I have been known to buy a plug in/daw and then use a cracked version for performance, because I am sorry, I am not sacrificing efficiency for paranoia, although I heard somewhere that if you use a dongle bypass, but do it with a valid liscence key you paid for, they cant touch you, cause no theft occurred, but yeah, dont take my word for that.

Re: East West Orchestra Upgrade
Let me make certain that I understand milfus' argument: It's OK for me to rob a bank as long as I return the money? Perhaps there's a multi-purpose dongle that permits me to do this along with upgrading my EWQLSO Gold bundle. As for a dongle bypass (to circumvent latency issues), I can only guess that the chastity belt and the hacksaw were invented sequentially and within minutes of one another. When they sell me two pieces of cake, I just wish that my friends as soundsonline wouldn't require that I disgorge the first piece before they'll permit me to enjoy the second piece. At this juncture, I've run out of relevant metaphors.
