Things I'm glad I bought!

Post by davekershaw » Fri Sep 12, 2008 2:58 am

Anyone got a piece of recording equipment they really are glad they bought, and now find indispensable.I just got a Frontier Tranzport wireless controller, and I wish I'd got it months ago. A terrific bit of kit. Thanks for recommending it Mazz. The other thing I'm glad I bought was a second monitor,to run two displays.I'd be interested to know of any other "crucial" bit of kitfor the studio I might be missing.Cheers,Dave.

Deepest and most comprehensive multi-function processor I've ever owned for under half a grand=Pod X3Live. Close second? MXR M80 Bass DI+. It's a bass rig in a stompbox, runs off 9V or phantom power from the mixer, it's built like a brick shipyard and you can tote your rig to the gig in your back pocket for way less than two bills!

I too purchased a second monitor and wondered how I ever lived without it. Likewise, my husband talked me into getting a desk custom built and it really has been a huge asset. I can't begin to tell you how much of a difference this has made in my workflow. (Okay, he talked me into the second monitor too)! I like to think he has great taste!!!!Christi

Well Dave, you might have to stand in line! I shouldn't have posted that . . . I should take the advice from the song."Women be Wise", (keep your mouth shut, don't advertise your man)! But I just couldn't help myself.

Man...I'm glad I bought everything in my studio . But getting right down to what are the things I'm REALLY glad I bought:HARDWARE:* My Roland XV-5080. It's my workhorse.* Studio Projects C1. Just a stupid good mic for the price* Presonus Eureka mic pre. I need...I WANT another.SOFTWARE* Steinberg's Cubase. Just can't live without it.* Native Instrument's Battery. Dopest drum sequencer on the planet IMHO.Jude 2

I'm like Prez. I have very few regrets when it comes down to anything I buy. I just purchased this Muse Receptor loaded with Native Instruments' Komplete 5, and it's soundin' like the schizznit! I also purchased a new Taylor electric acoustic, which sounds absolutely beautiful, and a new Ken Smith left-handed 5 string jazz bass, so I'm in heaven right now! I-468

Same for me with the second monitor. It's like the internet, almost. I can't help but wonder how I survived before I had it.Analog things I couldn't live without, now:A couple mics: Neumann TLM 103 and Sennheuser MKH 418 P48 shotgun mic. Amazing resolution, depth and clarity. Also my Avalon VT737 preamp. Such rich depth, I can hardly believe it.Digital: The Waves plugins. Can't recall which bundle I got, but the mastering programs, eq's, compressors and maximizers are easily worth the cost. Don't underestimate FREE, though. Some of my favorite plugins are downloads that cost nothing. I always try to send 10-20 bucks if I end up using them frequently, though. One in particular, the Classic Master Limiter (can't remember who made it), seems to always add the final touch to any difficult mixes.Oh, and it's not money spent yet, but the money I spend for my TAXI membership in the next week or two, will proabbly go into the same category. Heck, I've gotten my money back already, just from being able to read this forum!
