A really good D/A converter. The ones in regular audio interfaces are OK until you hear what a really good one can do. It was like a blanket was lifted off of my speakers.http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DAC1/I got mine used, I'm sure there's good deals out there.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I switched to Mac (intel duo core) and got an RME Fireface 400 audio interface. I use Logic Pro 7.0 and am happier than the proverbial pig in shite!Mewman

I am not sure if this counts Dave, as it is software, but I find it has helped me alot. Ozone3 from izotope.... and specifically the paragraphic EQ part of the plugin where you can 'Match' Eq settings from your favourite song styles.http://www.gearwire.com/ozone3-eq.htmlThis shows what I mean, but I found on some of those tunes you want to get close to a particular EQ sound but can't do it, this really has helped me out....cheers,Maceman

Bone simple one-knob interface, crank it 'til it just barely distorts, then back it down a little.

I'm with Mazz on this, ever since I bought my Fireface, my recordings have had a clarity and depth that was not there before.
