Re: OK - I'M READY NOW
Cyndy,You could ask .. do you think it is a song to pitch to artists or for film-tv or not really commercial at all. I have done that.I got an old-time Grand Ole Opry vibe from the song .. country, but old-school.Good luck with it.Dean

Re: OK - I'M READY NOW
Hey Cyndy,I've been spending a lot of time trying to get more "current" with my own material... listening to country radio and today's top writers, etc. so take this as coming from a guy who's maybe a bit sensitive to this right now. The biggest problem I hear with your song is that it's about 30 years too late. If that's what you're after (for film or TV placement perhaps) great, but I can't think of any artists these days who record this type of song any longer. This is something that gets stressed a lot at the Nashville songwriter's workshops I've attended, as there are always people who show up with some very old sounding songs (myself included on occasion) and I can almost anticipate the teacher's response before the song is over. The one point that gets made again and again is "who could you imagine singing this?" The last workshop I went to one guy answered "Elvis or Conway Twitty" to which the teacher responded "They're dead!" Of course, it's always possible that someone will make a modern song in the old style, but just be aware that it will cut down your chances of a song ever getting cut.Personally, I find it stifles my creativity to try to write a "modern" sounding song, so I just write what I write and if I feel the song is commercial enough when I'm finished with it, I make a studio demo. Otherwise, the only people who'll probably ever hear it are my friends and family (and perhaps fellow Taxiites).Cam

Hey Dean,Thanks again for your interest and words of wisdom...And Cameron,Thanks, I appreciate your insight, and I hear you loud and clear.I just have this "gut feeling" that once I get this song fine-tuned, there will be a slot for it. Granted, that slot might only be milimeters wide, but I believe the song can find it's mark somehow. That narrow slot may end up being a movie or TV program about country music and it's roots, or about some coal-miner's daughter, but once this song is polished, I think this arrow can find a bulls-eye somewhere.I know it's gonna take a little refining, but I think there may be a little gold in there.Maybe I'm dreamin'... but if I am, don't wake me up!! LOL
