Happy Birthday Len, hey I'm 49 also.....October's the big 50 for me......oh man!!!Len911 wrote:lol 2lane! No I know his comments weren't about me drinking the koolaid, I didn't take any offense at that, what really burns me up is that he ignored me, isn't that the worst thing in this business when everyone fights to be heard, getting ignored? I better say right now I am of course joking. I found out at 48 that I've been wrong most of my life, today I just turned 49, and it is good now that I am aware, and can move forward.

Re: Taxi is close to worthless for singer/songwriters
wta...I'm not dictating anything....just saying stop with the personal attacks, it's not helpful....fair enough?...I agree with tough love. Which is better? " a wound from a friend or a kiss from an enemy". True I initially posted this out of frustration. Long time coming frustation. It was met with immediate and swift decisive patented responses however. I realize what it means to make this post. Trust me....I'm a web developer!!! I know all about it. However, with such unanimous attacking on behalf of my peers, I was forced to "explain myself" and so I did. It was met with more attacks and challenges. I met those challenges with further explanations which simply has invited more criticism. Believe me, I knew that was coming as well. However, I did level a challenge that nobody has taken seriously and thus I've started to realize nobody's really listening to me...they've already made up there mind from the title "Taxi is close to worthless for singer/songwriters". That's judging a book by it's cover. I put such colorful title because I knew it would get attention. It worked.
Also, Taxi is not a person, it's a service. So no, I did not disrespect anyone. And even if ML takes it personal it's because he IS sincerely a good person who does care about his business and has our best interest in mind and I believe that else I wouldn't be reading his newsletters for the past 5 frickin' years. Nobody's asked my opinion about why it's "close to worthless"...I honestly feel like this is a music industry discussion...not necessarily Taxi. I haven't made any false claims against Taxi. I didn't say it was an illegimate service or that it was a scam or anything of the like. I think Taxi is really great....I just think that it needs to handle the songwriter portion much different and about 50% of my returns don't make sense. Like media library returns because my song lacked a bridge....songs for media are "songs" they are "snippets"...it's only about the vibe....just seems like they are mixing criteria constantly....media placement is one, songwriting another, artist pitch yet another...we are just supposed to "trust" their judgement...yet the critiques seem to make suggestions that aren't relevant....and frequently. That's where this frustration stems from...and when I get a return that implies it was on the basis of something extremely subjective despite other elements that are great...that's where I start to raise the red flag that maybe this service isn't all it's cracked up to be and maybe I could be doing something else more productive with my money/time.

I'd like to address your quote here:If you think this song is so great....go cut that song in a pro studio, put it on itunes and see how many of your fans buy it. If it sells well then you will have a great case for your original post.
I did get it cut in a pro studio by a pro producer with accomplished studio musicians and mixed and mastered by accomplished mixing and mastering engineers...it's also on itunes and has been paying for it's own spins on jango.com for 4 months by way of positive votes from complete unsuspecting strangers. What I don't have is the marketing muscle of mass distribution and advertising. I'm not even looking for that...I'm just looking to get the opportunity to be heard. I'm paying for that opportunity....and if this doesn't work, I find another way to approach my goals.
wta,
OK dude..please don't post on this thread anymore, you're just being spiteful...this is the peer to peer section where we are supposed to be helping each other, not dissing each other. Am I dissing anybody? Have I? There are like 10 people on here trying to microscope me and back me into a corner....but none of you are leveling any legitimate response...jdhogg...has made some good points as well as others....do you have any good points to contribute? If not then please stop your harassment, I don't feel like exchanging blows.
Now you're running the forum deciding who can post here? I'm not being spiteful in the least, just real and maybe your not used to that. Your not dissing anyone? Did you read your title for this thread and anything you've written? How bout dissing Taxi on their own site that they provide for your benifit for free? How much more proof of your lack of professionalism is needed here? You wanna throw up this big smoke screen and have us believe all you really want is someone to prove you wrong? Pubesent, period. A professional would have just asked for testimonials for singer/songerwriter success stories and I happen to know many who would have gladly invested their time to help you, including myself (which I really am at the present though you can't see that because I don't agree with you) but I happen to know that many if not all of those who would have helped you are NOT going to waste their time with someone that has posted as you have, hence the amount of replies. So not only have you got them looking the other way but also every industry professional that frequents this site (many music sups and library's check out this forum all the time looking for talent and also black list guys who start threads like this one. Don't forget if your going to go public like this with Taxi, what would you do if a music sup picked you up but didn't get you any gigs? What would you say about them publically? Sorry mate but you've formally "as they say" whooped yourself.) Add to that, do you really think Taxi and Michael are going to want to go out of their way to help you now that you have taken public shots at them? And your not "dissing" anyone right? Believe it or not I really do feel for you and you need someone to get real with you, that's why you've been shutting down your music goals, cause your frustated and can't make it work and what you need is someone to get REAL with you. Tough love is better than no love at all my friend, had I of ignored your rant then it would have ment I didn't care but instead I've invested time into you because, believe it or not I think you've got a shot with your music but not a hope with attitude. Take it or leave it, makes no difference to me either way but I hope you take it...

lol! Better with age? I should be writing songs, instead of chatting with a group of seniors like myself now, lol. They are already starting to give me automatic senior discounts, before I had to ask, lol! Is that stealing? Congratulations on the big 50!! Now that I have to think about my old age, maybe I should just stay close to home and learn jazz, heck with Nashville, LA or NY,lol!! I don't think jazz much gives a hoot about age, 18th & Vine here I come, Kansas City, Kansas City here I come....

Len911, I saw your post about me ignoring you....I didn't mean to. I keep forgetting to hit the subscribe button so I'm not getting all the notifications about when somebody has replied to me....since it's like 10 on 1 I'm surprised if I've missed a few points here or there...I went back and reread your posts....thank you....seriously...you have been very fair.

Steve,
One thing that everybody has missed here is the fact that the written word doesn't convey how it's being spoken. I truly am writing these things with a smile on my face and honestly didn't think people would get so offended and nasty with me, lesson learned....that's the danger of this platform...

being interviewed on TV. And when the obligatory question comes, "what is the biggest piece of advice you can give to someone trying to break into the business", 80% of the time it's "believe in yourself, believe in your music, and never quit". Then
when someone comes along that does just that, they're told....you're not there yet! This business is SO subjective, I just wonder at what point did they (the mega-stars) get on the SUB side, and not the JECTIVE side? I mean, they had to be in the same position as you at some point ...right? It's a mystery for the ages! I'm starting to think it's more fate than anything else?
Peace Kevin, hope you get some path lit as to where to go.......Shoot... me too!
