I might consider hating modern music for cash.

heloooooooo taxiers! Hope you're all well and groovy! Peer to Peer is neat

"modern" is not Music, it is a judgement of music, usually by some nonce who thinks he/she has a finger on the pulse,

one day he/she will be old and forgetting their name and some other nonce will rise up and be recconing he/she knows what modern is ... who cares : )

Good luck everyone! Forget genres and make mad sounds!

hey hey .. looking forward to catching up on peer to peer

Mark Kaufman wrote:"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" is such a deeply touching song. I always feel so bad for grandma, and so confused by how reckless a reindeer can be. It reminds us to always, always Think Safety.
I told that reindeer not to text while driving but NOOOOOOO!!!... He didn't listen.

There is definitely such a thing as modern music. All music encompasses a certain time period. The definition of music itself is 'sound through time'. Just because you do not understand how to capture a particular sound does not mean it is impossible or a fantasy. Why do people talk about the Beatles so much? Because they made music within a certain time period that brings back memories.

Please do not try to persuade people that making "mad sounds" is in their best interest. It takes a certain focus to become a professional with a sustainable career in any field, especially music. We need to encourage each other to get focused and not create chaos and disorder. Those that thrive in chaos and disorder lack a certain appreciation and understanding in life.

Please do not make uninformed opinions, as this may confuse newer musicians seeking serious advice. No more games, guys. Let us be professional, respectful, and helpful in our responses. We never know who is watching!!!

Dear new forum master DI,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I am thrilled to learn that, by the given definition, the f*rt I made, whilst reading your reply, is regarded as modern.

Your concern for fellow musicians is admirable, though my use of the word "mad" is only a stretching colloquial.
You don't need to be troubled by it.

Good luck with your quest for happiness equals ( whatever )

Kind regards,
Rob

From mad sounds, chaos and disorder comes genius. Keep fighting the good fight Rob! No disrespect Desire but don't be too surprised when people fire back at your condescending posts.

Modern music? Timeless music will always sound hip whereas if you emulate what's on the radio now you'll be dated by next week. Yes, as production music composers it is fruitful to be versed in what is "trending" right now, that's obvious, but those who strive to create something timeless would be wiser to mine mad sounds, chaos and disorder. Just my humble (and often wrong) opinion.

Reading through this was somewhat fun at times, but is getting stale again. A few questions:
Who are you?
How old are you?
Why don't you have any of this wonderful "modern" music of yours posted somewhere so that we can at least hear what your music sounds like as opposed to your opinions about it?

If people want to make mad sounds that's their business. Don't tell us what we should or should not be doing with our lives. And please stop with all this limp philosophizing without backing it up with some actual music of yours. You're right, you never know who is watching around here and you're not really doing yourself any favors with this preachy "holier than thou" garbage.

For film/TV music, if you look at the majority of folks with placements (especially the higher paying ones), the ability to imitate other styles is a key factor, plain and simple.

1) The target viewing audience for so many TV shows is youth. So naturally, producers of these shows want music that is similar to what young people are currently listening to.

2) Often, when composers like ourselves get leads, there already is a "temp track" in the production-- one by a known act. However, it's too expensive to license that track so the show seeks lower cost alternatives with similar tempo, feel, mood, lyrics, and style. Even if the temp track is not a modern one, there will be the need to imitate whatever it is. That could be anything from The Doors 1960's "Five To One" to Blink-182's latest radio hit. But what you give them has to truly be an on-target replacement for the temp track, not something totally different. I’m not saying you should be able to imitate ANY style—retro might be your specialty, modern rock, singer-songwriter, whatever… I hate to see people not recognize the importance of this.

Look at what folks like Paul Otten and Keith LuBrant do to get so many forwards and placements.

Nothing wrong if you prefer to create the music you love and just “see what happens”. I find myself falling back in that mode all the time. However, it’s important to couple that with a reality check and not expect those ASCAP/BMI checks to suddenly be huge.

Best,
:D Casey
