How many lefties

Post by brindabella » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:09 am

Are on this board? Do you have any problem playing an instrument? I have to be careful , since the right hand is the one carrying the melody on a piano and my left hand is stronger than the right. How about the guitar players? Do you reverse the guitar like Paul McCartney? Just curious!

I'm a leftie, but I learned guitar right-handed because they were charging way more for left-handed models. So I stuck to right-handed. As you might expect, my fingering is quite adept, but I find it hard to get my right hand faster.

I'm a lefty - French Horn player, Piano, and guitar... I deal with the right-handed world. Everyone's born right-handed - only a few can overcome that. ~wings~

Actually, that comes handy for playing Bach!

I'm also a lefty, I started playing guitar left handed, upside down and backwards, then when I got a guitar of my own, seeing as it was a right handed guitar, I just re-taught myself everything again right handed. I had the same experience as cmmurray, lefty guitars were way more expensive. Fun fact: When I was in elementary school, my teachers use to tie my left hand behind my back to try to get me to write with my "correct" hand. It didn't work...

Im the daughter of two lefties. Being a lefty got my father expelled from school, they tied his hand everyday and smacked him with the ruler, and everyday he untied it, until one day that they smacked him really hard and he threw an ink bottle at the teacher. You dont do that to a Jesuit Priest!

Actually, that comes handy for playing Bach! YES!!! Ever since I was a little kid people told me that the base in my piano always had to be softer. LOL ...wow... This is the first time I've come across another person with the same issue! LOL~wings~

I am a righty, but boy I tell you all my kids are lefty inclined. I have 2 total lefties other than scissor cutting??? go figure. One who started left, switched to right, but plays all his sports left. One that does everything left except bat (in baseball). My husband says that he thinks his mother forced him to be right handed cause 1 of his older brothers was left handed, and he had difficulties in school. My 18 year old lefty plays a right handed guitar. That's what was around so that's how he learned. When he got the first guitar of his own he decided he didn't want to reteach himself to play left handed. I wonder about when he plays the keys...will have to ask him
