Re: How many lefties
I read research that says left handed people are more easily able to become gifted performers because of greater connections between the left and right hemispheres segueing through the corpus collosum. Makes it easier to have right and left hand independence such as on an instrument like a piano where that is ever so important. Rhythmic independence is the hardest thing on any instrument and any extra neurons hooked up doesn't hurt. My father got angry at me for trying to play guitar left handed even though I was theoretically a righty. What I've come to learn about myself is that I was actually sort of ambidextrous because I was naturally experimenting with writing with both hands and playing guitar both ways when I was young. I'm better with my right hand at everything but my left hand can also do whatever my right hand does just with less dexterity and not as quickly. It comes in handy though when my mind wants to keep working and my right hand wants to quit. No problem. Just switch hands. Helps to burn the candle at both ends.

You just stick it in the crack and turn. What's the issue with that? Now, scissors are hard. I can't cut with scissors in my left hand at all even though I am left handed. But, I learned to cut perfectly with my right hand.

(and a genius) Knives have always been a problem for me too. I have to switch to my left hand to cut meat and then my fork ends up in my right hand. I then eat my meat with my right hand although I usually eat everything else with my fork in my left hand. It's very awkward but I just can't cut anything with my knife in my right hand. But, I can cut perfectly with scissors in my right hand. You would think cutting meat on my plate would be easier than that.

When you do it with your left hand you go first counter-clockwise, therefore loosening...until you realize, and then go clockwise....at least that happens to me.

Re: How many lefties
Uh...hello...I'm J.J. and I'm a Lefty Interesting thread! When I started guitar as a kid in the 70's, my mom took me to a teacher who refused to teach me left handed. So speaking of Paul McCartney, I bought the Wings over America songbook and learned how to play from that! I later learned to play righty guitars upside down so I could try them in the music store before bringing them home and restringing in a "proper" manner. As for everything else in my life I'm a lefty. I played golf as a kid righty, because that was the only clubs we had. I was fine if I played twice a week, but skip a week and it was like starting from scratch. Those pesky scissors, I just learned how to tweak my fingers to make them cut. And I'm amazed that people still wonder how I can drive a stick shift, you know, because I'm...left-handed.But strap on a bass, and nobody complains!

Well, I guess I haven't been paying attention. I never noticed that. Of course, since the electric screwdriver arrived on the scene, I haven't looked back. Although there are still some jobs that are too cramped to allowed a big electric screwdriver to suffice.
