jayas far as I know the only song in that category would be a co-write by elliot parks with a nashville writer(can't remember his name) on the heartland hit "I loved her first" I believe if there were more ML would have let all of us know about it.scott

I was wondering the same thing about country cuts from Taxi. It seems to me the business is the same as it was when I lived in Nashville back in 1983-89. I met with a top record exec. just before I moved there and he told me point blank that the country music business is based in Nashville and it's going to stay in Nashville. If you want to be part of it, move here! He told me that they gave cuts to the people who live, work, shop etc. in Nashville. I thought maybe it might have loosened up a little since then. I would still be in Nashville if it wasn't for first family and then economic reasons. I have continued to travel to Nashville regularly over the years, I cut all my demo's there and have always given business to music city. I am hoping that a good song and Taxi will make a difference.

I'm a glass half full kind of guy though. TAXI has helped two completely unknown songs from rookie writers with no previous contacts or experience, from small towns more than a thousand miles away from Nashville (Ogden, UT and Clyde, TX) get to the point where they got cuts in Nashville and BOTH had Number One Singles. I can't think of any other entity outside of Nashville that has accomplished that, can you?It proves that it's all about the song! And if you've got a number one single in you, we've got the connections to make the same thing happen for you. People love to discuss how TAXI works, if TAXI works.... yet they rarely discuss the most important factor -- the quality of the material that comes to us. Give us a hit and we know who to get it to.BTW, search Elliott Park on our website, and read his story. Beyond his cut and subsequent Number One, there were a TON of major label, multi-platinum artist holds as well. All because of the publishing deal he got through TAXI.ML

Buy Me A Rose was in 2000. If anything, the business has gotten tighter than it was back in the '80s. Lots of pro writers losing their deals, competition is fierce.I'm sorry, Admin, two country cuts in the past almost decade is not a stellar track record for Taxi and country music. Then again, how many number one singles has Taxi accomplished for the members who submit in other genres? I'm asking truly out of curiosity, not to be a pain, because I don't follow the other genres so I don't know.Claire

Thanks ML for jumping on this thread. The key to all this is you have to be willing to improve your writing, daily. So many writers forget that the music industry is an INDUSTRY and there is a DEMAND for HITS songs (not our personal musings). If a builder orders 11 skids of 2x4's then you don't even bother asking if he wants your rough cut timber. It's common sense that creative folks like ourselves have trouble grasping. The beauty of TAXI is if you can't move to Nashville and get involved in the fraternity and work your way into success then TAXI can be your presence in Nashville. It is quite obvious that ML has the connections for HUGE success in Nashville. Not start-ups, Mom and Pop shop publishers, but the players. No wonder TAXI has 2 #1 hit country songs.Andy

Hi Claire,TAXI doesn’t make number one singles, we open doors and get people on the desks of companies they haven’t been able to connect with on their own. Whether or not they become number one singles is up to the A&R person, the producer, the radio promoters, the retail reps, program directors, the act itself, and ultimately the public voting with their purchases and listening habits. We’ve placed thousands of songs and artists on the desks of the people who sign them, but after that, it’s totally out of our control. We’ve had artists like Jenna Drey get singed to signed to an Indie deal (she had a dance hit), the band the Matches got signed to an Indie deal (their record didn’t do so well), Fisher got signed to Unviversal (the record stiffed), Bobgoblin signed to MCA (the record stiffed), Crossfade signed to Columbia and went Platinum, Elliott Park had a Number One with 'I Loved Her First,' Erik Hickenlooper and Jim Funk had a Number One, Daniel Holter had a song cut on Columbia (I Wanna Be) that was released as a first single with Emma Roberts, Jim Funk and Erik Hickenlooper’s ‘Buy Me a Rose’ was cut again by Luther Vandross and went top 10 (pretty sure about that), Brian Allen got signed to an EMI distributed Indie (the record wasn’t released), more than a dozen TAXI members have had cuts on or have been signed to label deals with Major Label distribution in foreign countries, Chuck Henry got signed to a New Age label, more than two dozen TAXI artists have had Major Label showcases and made it as far as the showcases or deal offers that didn’t come together, others have showcased for labels we set them up with, but ultimately signed with other labels, Adam Watts and Andy Dodd got a cut and had an international hit with Jesse McCartney’s (Beautiful Soul) and they each signed pub deals with Disney as a result of that, which has led to them having cuts on TONS of Disney hits that have resulted in their songs and productions on 35 MILLION albums (at last count) and tons of film and TV cuts… the list goes on… you can see them at:http://taxi.com/abouts/successdeals.htm ... 0000002BTW, only one in seven members who get a deal, even bother to report them to us! And as recently mentioned, one top film/TV publisher reported that 70% of the deal offers she made to our members went unanswered!!We’ve also been responsible for THOUSANDS of members getting songs signed to film and TV specific publishers, and in turn, they’ve had hundreds of film and TV cuts in major motion pictures and on every TV network you can think of. While those generally don’t generate the income one would get from having a hit single, they add up over time. We have members who now make tens of thousands of dollars per year doing film and TV music only, and they got that first foot through the door because of their TAXI memberships. ALL of the above are people who had no real connections with the industry prior to joining TAXI. And THAT’S the point. We help people who aren’t connected GET connected. Whether they have a hit or make money is not up to TAXI at all.The first few paragraphs of our brochure and website state:The Best Way To Get SignedIf you're trying to land a record deal, nothing works better than hitting the road, playing hundreds of gigs, and selling thousands of CDs from the trunk of your car.If you're a songwriter, moving to Los Angeles, New York, or Nashville and "paying your dues" is often the best way to go.But, can you just walk away from your life, your job, your family, and your mortgage payment? Okay, that might be tempting, but let's get real! You need a vehicle to help you get your music to the right people.TAXI will help you do that no matter where you live.*****I think we’ve proven that to be true and effective. How many other companies that claim to do what we do can show anything remotely like our track record?Another often-overlooked aspect of TAXI is that we educate our members and help move them forward. How many times have you seen people talk about how the critiques and feedback they get here on this forum helping them to get good enough to GET a deal? How many times have you seen people here talk about indirect deals, in which they’ve collaborated their way to a cut/placement because they met co-writers through TAXI or pitched something they improved to another label/pub and got a deal there? How many people have made a connection through TAXI, then gone on to sign many more songs as a result of that first connection? To give some perspective to the people reading this, would you mind if I asked you how many years you’ve been writing Country music? How many years have you lived and pitched in Nashville? How many major or top Indie cuts have you had so far?How many Number Ones have you had so far?I’m not trying to be snarky, but I too am sincerely curious? Maybe if you tell your story, it will show our members how long it takes, how much effort it takes, and how many links are in the chain AFTER you’ve had a hold or a cut before something goes to Number One.Sincerely,Michael
