Goth? Singer/songwriter? Country? Electronic? About 500 different classifications of Rock? Not to mention, the endless number of film genres appropriate to the variety of film listings available?Everyone of these genres, and more, are represented by the musicians on these boards. It seems to me the only one displaying a disgusting "lack of openness to things outside" himself is you in suggesting none of these genres can be "cutting edge" - only yours...

Per Alimo:Quote:I have yet to receive any comments on any of my Threads. Wow: Something from the archives! It seems I posted a comment after all! And I even used the "L" word! Perhaps he doesn't know how to read replies and was expecting PMs (?). That's a critical element in reaching people with your music. You pour a lot of emotion into your lyrics but there's quite a bit you need to learn before your recordings will effectively communicate those emotions to a wider audience. Your listeners are surrounded by musical excellence. If you want to be heard, you'll need to rise to meet the competition. It's not easy, but don't give up unless the music profession isn't calling to you.-Allen

Hi Dave! I found this post of yours very very funny! Thanks for posting!- until next timefrodoPs: I have some nice insurance for sale!Ps2: I especially liked this part; ' Most of my insurance policies have hidden meanings'Aug 17, 2008, 6:25pm, davewalton wrote:Pretend this is an "Insurance Agents Forum", run by a company that helps insurance agents find people, groups, and companies looking for insurance. So you use the TAXI LISTINGS to submit your insurance proposals and this forum (populated by other insurance agents), to talk to other agents about things like cold calling, sales, overcoming rejection, and sometimes review of each other's insurance policies. We also talk frequently about "what the listings might really be looking for" when a listing appears asking for a certain, special, specific, or unusual kind of insurance. So... let's replace the word "music" with the word "insurance" in your posts and see if your approach makes any sense...Quote:I do my own thing with insurance. Does the concept of "selling" us still make sense?Save the selling for insurance BUYERS. Stop trying to sell to other agents selling insurance. The individuals, groups, and companies in the TAXI LISTINGS are the only people affiliated with Taxi that are looking to buy insurance. The rest of the insurance agents here... if you're forever trying to "sell" us, no wonder you're frustrated!Quit "selling", be a regular guy and you'll find a whole host of new friends.

Not only have I written rock, jazz, experimental, country, electronica, rap etc. (and now compose for symphonic orchestra), I was the tenor soloist when I was 17 and in my senior year of high school when we did the complex "Mass In Time Of War" by Haydn. I had one problem: I came in too early on one of the soloist passages. I realized it immediately, but kept singing (probably in pig-latin --- "Am-scray, astard-bay etc.").No one in the audience knew that I screwed up, but after the concert the whole choir came up to me, laughing and patting me on the back for my "improvisation." It was a defining moment in my musical career --- Ern
