It was cool because sometimes somebody famous would pop in but the rest of the time it was just that awesome houseband. And this clip was right near the end of his gig on this show, either that or he was doing this at the same time he was with the Isley Bros. His hair is getting a little bit of his "nappy-fro" in this clip but I remember earlier he had more of a pompadour. I remember thinking he looked like Little Richard & I couldn't believe this dude was playing upside down & nobody was making a big deal out of it. Sure is a hoot watching him "doin" steps" in a tux!

Found out later that it's just the guitar that's upside down, but the axe is strung left-handed. I would assume he got very comfortable playing the guitar itself upside down, and found advantages to playin' it that way, but still had the need for it ta' be strung left-handed. Me, I went all the way, and just left everything like it was. For a long time I did anyhow. Now I seek out the left-handed guitar/bass and get it re-strung right-handed. Kooky huh?

Hey, I'm late to this party! I LOVE Lennon, but musically I'd be more interested in what Hendrix would be doing. They're both my heroes, but Jimi would have sonically changed the face of music as we know it! --- I still listen to "Machine Gun" and get floored by what he MIGHT have been as a visionary musician if he kept following that path.Ern

Ernst, ABSOLUTELY!!! I just watched him play "Machine Gun" on the YouTube thingy, and got pissed off because it didn't go all the way to the ending. Boy could he make that guitar squeel, and whine, and talk. I absolutely LOVE it!!I-468

Guys have tried to buy the same gear and copy that sound (Robin Trower, Kenny Wayne Shepherd etc.) but NO one has been able to capture the sonic invention of Jimi. He was a genius, pure and simple. Even guys like Miles Davis thought of him as the best of the best. --- I play my '63 Strat "kinda" like Hendrix, but there's no way I can capture his mastery of feedback and tone that he had. Plus, my hands are about half the size of Jimi's! Ern

Although Hendrix would be a close second!BobI'd flip those Bob, Stevie would probably agree .... though Texas Flood is in my top ten all time fav albums.... My Wife would say Morrison.... she had that poster of him when she was in highschool..... so I would vote no on that one Peace, Geo
