I know I said this earlier, but I'm back on my B-vitamins and Vitamin C rant... [podium] For those new non-smokers (and smokers as well), smoking KILLS the B vitamins and anti-oxidants in the body (they are eaten up by the body's efforts to get rid of the poisons in the smokes). Just google "B vitamins cravings" or "B vitamins smoking" and you'll get a pile of information. So... (and this is key)... you'll fend off those cravings MUCH EASIER with a good daily dose of B vitamins and vitamin C. No kidding! (I used to work on addictions unit-- with some very serious addictions -- with the docs and there are less difficult or more difficult ways to beat the addictions (like eating more sugar, which only further destroys C and B vitamins and leaves you tied up from those awful cravings...) So check with your docs and get some useful help for those cravings. [/podium] Okay... enough said. I really want you all to get through with flying colors!!! You know we are all reading along here and rooting for EACH ONE of you!!What a great thread to start, Ted. I'm so proud of you for starting this thread and passing the 20 day marker!!! I can't wait to meet the smoke-free you at the next Rally!! Raags

Raags,Good info. I'll have to go to the health store? and see if I can get a hold of some of these vitamins. Where's the best place to get a hold of some? Maybe a Walgreens? Osco? CVS?I-468

I would try to get these vitamins from foods and snacks, rather than pills. Since you want to chew on something anyway, instead of munching on empty calories, why not snack on real "lifesavers"...Salmon jerky, Brazil nuts, snacks made from oat meal and/or barley, dry cereals, carrot sticks, dried (and fresh) fruit or vegetables, whole grain bread or crisp bread... If you go to a health foods store you might find a whole bunch of other choices.I'm no health nut but it seems kind of silly to snack on Doritos and Lifesafers to fight the psychological addiction and then take pills to combat the Vitamin deficiency when you could combine the two.Remember I'm not preaching I'm a former smoker myself... I know what you're going thru... matto

Yes matto, you are right once again. I had to have some junk to get past the initial transition stage first. I don't think I would've succeeded with healthy food from the very beginning. That would've taken a little time for me to acquire the taste for those types of foods. Now that I've almost gotten through a whole week, I think I can better handle the change to more healthier foods. I'll get myself together, and go to the store this afternoon, and get both vitamins & fruits & nuts & things. Thanks for the advice, both raags & yourself!I-468PS -- HAHAHAHA, milfus, you're funnier 'n hell!

If you can find these somewhere in your neck of the woods, I find them much tastier than most dried fruit or vegetables...the mixed "fruit munchies" are almost like candy....http://www.justtomatoes.com/dried_fruit.html

Can't say that I've ever seen this particular brand, but I have seen many other types of similar products, that offer the same taste. I've even had some, moreso by accident than anything. Thanks for the suggestions.

O.K. -- Update: Just got back from the store. I got my baby-cut carrots (YUCK!!!) to nibble on, got a few fruit trail mix packages, got some real fruit packages (cut up watermelon, cantelope, mango, strawberries, etc...) got a bunch of apple juice (unsweetened) to replace the Hawaiian punch, and got some B & C vitamins. So I think I'm all set headin' into next week! How's that sound everybody? Good? O.K. Good!I-468

You just take one day at a time (one hour if you need to) and try to celebrate your decision to not smoke.Hang in there. I don't even know you and I'm rooting for you (and the rest of the gang) and wishing I had your willpower. The dark days will soon subside - keep at it Liam
