Hey Ern,Just thought I'd share this with ya... My girls dad was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his neck a few weeks back (he felt a hard lump in his neck and his one ear went completely numb), anyway, he had the surgery last week and everything is 100%, although he has a hefty cut, the tumour never spread and he doesn't even have to have chemo or radiation therapy...Bottom line is stay positive, positive energy is key to these things. All of us here are behind ya...P.s. maybe that specific ear is trying to tune out your neighbour?Take Care and Best of LuckB

I second the second opinion. I once took a hearing test and flunked it so badly they (the government, in this case) thought I was faking deafness, which was kind of an odd thought, seeing that I wasn't showing any sign of hearing problems. Turned out to be faulty equipment. There are so many things that can go wrong with testing it is worth multiple tests.

I agree with Dave. Positive thoughts are very important. They also have a new laser at MPRI in Bloomington, Indiana-Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute. They can really focus in on an area the size of a pin point with this stuff and drastically reduce the possibilities of permanent damage from surgery. The lady there is Jennifer at 1(812)349-5074. They'll be happy to send you info to assist you in a decision and further your knowledge. My stuff is stable. But, I'm keeping it in mind.Bless ya, Ern.

Obviously you have to make the decision on what to do. But I think it would be wise to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion not only on the diagnosis, but also the best treatment option.Wishing you all the best in this difficult time.

Hi ErnI don't know what the schedule is for getting the MRI done, but I wouldn't worry about it until you have it done and know for sure. It could be the doc just making sure all the bases are covered, as they are so cautious. The readings from the graph though the 20db deficit in the frequency band may be a little high is inconclusive that you have an organic problem. That condition, which I also have, known as a Carhart notch, can occur for thousands of reasons, especially over time as we age. Something as simple as that tractor trailer that went by you on the freeway when you had the window down could cause temporary or permanent sensitivity. My notches are at different frequencies in each ear, and overall, I think my EQ is in balance. Two other stories:About 4 years ago I was getting tension headaches and was taking regular doses of Vicoden. I was recording and mixing with headphones on a daily basis for months. The Vicoden reduces your brain's ability to detect noise level above the threshold of pain, and I wound up with severe tinnitus. (Certain radio talk show hosts have had the identical problem) Anyway, your thread here made me realize that the tinnitus has been pretty much gone a while, since I've been careful to keep things on the quiet side.A month back I called the doctor and said "hey doc, I think I'm getting a chest cold", expecting that he would prescribe the usual regimen of antibiotics. Nooooo.... Instead he said " you need to get a blood test, throat culture, chest x-ray, vasectomy, and have your left great toenail scraped for fungus......" Well, being the good little patient I went to all the outpatient places (at the height of tax season), and had all my test done. The nurse from the doc's office calls the next day and says " the chest x-ray shows some blur and the radiologist wants it redone with nipple markers..... " (I have 3 of them)..... (you know the legend)..... Anyway, after being a smoker off and on for the last 30 years or so, I was thinking, oh boy .... this is it.... spots on the chest x-ray.... not good.....oh well...So I have the x-ray redone, and the nurse calls the next day and says everything is fine, my nipples are the blur, and all the other tests and cultures came back negative, so..... no pills for you... that's $180 later and three days with the chest cold getting worse, and the lost time getting the tests done..... and no medical treatment???? I'm ok wit dat. Fuhgitaboudit.... next time I'll just get a big fat enema and be done with it..... So I hope you got a laugh... and that you feel good, and don't worry about anything until you actually know something.Best ArkJack

Wow, ark.I feel in need of an enema. It's so annoying isn't it? It's hard to find a doc who rides the line instead of leaning too far in the direction of "I'm jes clockin' in" all the way to "I'm totally FREAKED ABOUT YOUR HEALTH! CAN YOU TELL??" (sigh) and it always costs us big bucks to find out which one we've got cuz the midline ones are so rare, you jes KNOW we don't have him.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, guys! Yea, the Doc is just probably ruling things out. It could just be old age LOL! Or maybe the years of loud guitar playing. I was talking to a buddy today, and he and I both played guitar on stage right most of our gigging careers, with the drums to our left. Do most guitarists play on the right side of the stage? Kinda seems that way, why I don't know. My buddy said it's because the bassist likes to be on the left near the drummer's hi hat. I'm used to other people panning my music all the time! Maybe I'll partner up with Brian Wilson, if his good ear is his left one. We could write some awesome tunes, and collaborate on the panning during mixdown. Ern
