Re: There are no "do-overs" for music submissions
I just heard this from Eric about "the song" - you know, that one. He said he finally called taxi about the key his song was in and they simply said we will not forward a male vocal for a female artist in this high bar category.AND THEN... he asked if he could resubmit it in the new key and still squeak it in for this listing and they said MAYBE (!!!) if you get it here in a week. Which I know is going to be almost impossible for me to produce again in a new key that fast but I'll try.So maybe there ARE do-overs...BTW they had 1500 submissions for that 'a la Celine' listing and 51 forwards.

This was the actual point of my thread... Sometimes with TAXI there could be a "do-over" (But don't count on it as standard practice)... Had this been a direct submission to a publisher, it would never happen. In fact, 99% you would never even hear anything.Best of luck on this! Celine is waiting! CaseyGood luck

They are in our corner, even though the sting of a return may make one feel differently. A forum flame about a screener does nothing but make the poster look silly. A courteous, professional phone call can be very informative and helpful.Aub

Re: There are no "do-overs" for music submissions
I can understand Annaeadie's frustration, but the times are a-changing. There is just so very much stiff competition out there that you have to just "go with the flow". I agree with Traveling Ed...because you will be competing against other "great" demos, your odds of being heard are much slimmer.I did my songs by myself...just guitar and vocal on a cassette tape and sent them in to various demo makers. They do the arrangements and send your song on a CD that is of the quality needed to to submit to publishers, etc. TAXI will consider these CD's good enough to forward if they merit interest to the listings. TAXI is a great way to get your songs out there and listened to, but it doesn't hurt to send them to publishers, also.Miscue

My understanding is that great publishing houses are as difficult to breach than record labels. That today, unless asked for, it will come back as unsolicited material.Could you or others speak a little more abt how you approach publishers?I'd love to know, Thanks! I thought it was a closed door.Ericssf

Quote:ORIGINAL COVER VERSIONS of NATIONAL ANTHEMS from around the world are needed by the President of an LA-based Music Library. He not only wants the national anthems from the U.S. ("The Star-Spangled Banner"), Canada ("O Canada"), and Great Britain ("God Save The Queen"), but he's open to the official national anthem from each and every country/nation. ALL STYLES ARE OK. Both VOCAL and INSTRUMENTAL versions are OK too. The president is a successful TV music composer and used to be a TAXI Screener himself. They offer non-exclusive deals. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. As always, we will notify everyone via e-mail, whether your submissions have been Forwarded or Returned. Submissions must be received no later than 4:00 PM, Pacific Standard Time (California time), Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007. TAXI # D071002NA Someone may well be creating a National Anthem Library. Wicked idea! Here's an thought. What if a guy played & recorded, let's say 3 different styles of 5 anthems, and hit the transpose button for a few keys each, and then made all the tracks for sale from a broadjamish site for a buck a piece, or better yet, sell the whole Protools/Logic file that's created on for XX????? btw: The Russian Anthem is the most fun piece of music of the lot of them, imho. Do you think there might be a lot of clients for a library like that over the next 10 years? Now, who pays the royalities to the writers? And how much? just thinking out loud...

Now if you sent an unsolicited submission to one of them there's no penalty... they won't track you down or blacklist you or any of that. One book that helped me a lot in terms of getting a better grip on approaching and contacting publishers, libraries, etc on my own is a book called "Songwriter's Market 2007". It's published yearly and so the next one (Songwriter's Market 2008) will probably be out soon. In addition to walking the reader through the basic do's and don'ts of submitting music, it also includes a long list of publishers, music libraries, record labels, etc along with their contact info and how they prefer to receive submitted music. It's been discussed that some of the names aren't worth much but some are. Disney, for example is in there. Probably most would never dream of contacting Disney to submit music but they accept unsolicted submissions. Part of their process is that they request that you call first before sending any music.Anyway, it's well worth the $29 or whatever it is at your favorite book seller. If nothing else, buy a cup of coffee and read it over in the store. It'll help with getting over the whatever it is that possess us to think that nobody wants to hear from us or that we can't contact these people on our own. Doing stuff (marketing) outside of Taxi really gives one a good perspective on what's normal and what's not. Some of the stuff that seems "Taxi specific" is in reality just the way things work everywhere. In addition to picking up new deals, the broader experience really helped with my Taxi submissions.Good luck,Dave

TAXI # D071002NAYou can always beat the crowd by submitting the national anthems for the Federal Islamic Republic of the Comoros Islands or perhaps Tokelau. I bet there won't be 1500 submissions for either one of those.
