One thing that can't be denied, the Beatles were one of the very few "industry products" that affected the entire planet. Is that grounds for calling them revolutionary? Like you said, Katy, it depends on the perspective. There are no new musical notes or new words as they say. There are very few new combinations. When you look at the scope of their success, you can't deny the fact that the Beatles were, indeed, a paragon. But, my question is, does it involve timing, luck, talent, looks, packaging and a hundred other factors including fate? Regardless, the Beatles put it all together doing their thing based on a love for making music and turning heads using the gifts they were given. Just like we all do. And who can say that the next "revolutionay talent" couldn't possibly turn out to be someone we chat with?We can, all of us, achieve a certain level of success if we work hard enough. That's a given. But, I think that achieving success on a global level is a matter of all those factors that I mentioned above.I do believe that the Beatles' success was inevitable, although I still can't fathom the degree of talent John and Paul were blessed with. Not to take anything away from George and Ringo and, also the others on their team, but I think Lennon and McCartney would have gone global no matter who they surrounded themselves with. I wonder, though, how the sixties would have been different had John and Paul not hooked up? I wonder if the two of them would have become the legends that they are had they grown up in different areas and never met. Yep! I've had a few Molsons here and I wonder if they were destined to be the Beatles whether they knew it or not.Sincerely,Phil O. Sophical...

I always said that if I could've hooked up with someone really good I would have made it big. As long as I didn't have to be the good singer or guitar player in the bunch. Yeah, me and John Lennon (or Paul) would have been BIG. The name Drew would be the defining name for ugly guitar players. Why, can you just imagine me and Ringo in the same band? Ah, what could've been.

Drew, maybe you could work on your English accent. Chicks love a guy with an accent. (except the southern drawl...that only works for girls.)

Hey, I, too, born of different parents, could have been the shrieking, obnoxious wife of John Lennon! Instead,I get to be the demure, lovely, soft-spoken wife of a beatlemaniac...haha... <-----------the one on the far right. LOLBut, I thought we were talking about what is... not whatcould have been...

Coincidentally, I was just in the studio looking for somethingand came across Rolling Stone's Dec. 2003 special issueof "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Lo and behold,it's Sgt. Pepper's. For what it's worth, here's some of what they say,"Sgt. Pepper formally ushered in an unforgettable seasonof hope, upheaval and achievement: the late 1960's and,in particular, 1967's Summer of Love. In its iridescentinstrumentation, lyric fantasias and eye-poppingpackaging, Sgt. Pepper defined the opulent revolutionaryoptimism of psychedelia and instantly spread the gospelof love, acid, Eastern spirituality and electric guitars aroundthe globe. No other pop record of that era, or since, hashad such an immediate, titanic impact. This music documentsthe world's biggest rock band at the very height of itsinfluence and ambition.......The Beatles' exploitation ofmulti-tracking on Sgt. Pepper transformed the very actof studio recording."Rounding out the RS top ten are:2) Pet Sounds3) Revolver4) Highway 61 Revisited5) Rubber Soul6) What's Going On7) Exile on Main Street8) London Calling9) Blonde on Blonde10) The White AlbumInteresting that the Fab 4 has 4 out of the 10.Not to beat a dead horse... just thought it was interesting.Like Rock, IMamusicHO

There's only one thing Rolling Stone is good for... wiping your arse if you've run out of TP! I don't know if it was always rubbish. I only read it from the 80's up but it never failed to disappoint. According to their recent top 500 songs Eminem's 'Lose Yourself' is one of the greatest songs of all time! Not only that but it's 300 or so spaces higher than Brook Benton's version of 'Rainy Night in Georgia'. I give up!

There'd be no true debate without your presence, mani,so don't even think about felling us now...(said in true respect).I almost hate to say this because it could bring with itanother concussion created by the flinging of rottenapples, but I prefer Eminem to Benton (not necessarilythat song but all things considered). Now I'm gettin' a bit verklempt...talk amongst yaselves...lol
