But I'd like to clean up and remove all the takes I'm not using first so I'll try your suggestion about Unused Regions.Hi Nomi,Yeah, just be careful with the "Select and Remove Unused Sessions"- if you select "Delete from Session" it will only remove the tracks from your session. But if you select "Delete from Hard Drive" (or Disk, I can't recall the exact wording), all the files you select will be permanently deleted from your hard drive. So just make sure they aren't being used by another mix or session before you delete them.If anyone knows of a better way to remove all unused audio files-- ones that aren't used by ANY session (other than to hand write them and cross check them)-- do let us know!

Then at the end of the project, I'll do Save Copy In for each version of the session. You get some duplicates of audio files, but if you need to restore a backup, you only need the actual version you need, as opposed to all the versions and all the associated files. Nomi... yeah, you just have to delete the old session files in the Finder. (I think there's a page in PT called Workspace... I'd bet you can do that kind of stuff there as well... but I've never checked it out. Guess I should!)

Waitaminute... you mean you do a Save Copy In for EACH version? I had thought that I should keep all my audio files for a particular song in one single Audio Files folder-- so I'd have one "Happy Song" folder, with one Audio Files folder, one Fades folders, and multiple mixes all in that single "Happy Song" folder. I did notice this was a problem for a few files that were similarly named, and I had to manually make a separate Audio Files2 folder, etc. for the altered files (so the other ones wouldn't be deleted). But that was really only for two nightmare productions. Outside of that I've always tried to keep the mixes together for different versions. I've got such loooooooong songs (12-18 minute each for the commercial release songs) that my hard drives would be overflowing with files if I had that much duplication (for all the remixes). But if you tell me it's better functionally, I'll consider it! It might just be the way to go for these shorter music library pieces that I'm working on.

Hi everyone,Thanks Stick for starting this thread and to everyone who responded. I am in the process of a PT8 download right now. This is going to be a journey of discovery for me. I've been doing hardware sequencing since I got my first M1, and once swore to never hook a computer to my gear. Needless to say, I have a bit of apprehension but I see the reality of needing to join everyone in the here and now...I doubt that I'll have tech-nuggets to share for a while. At best I'm hoping to produce great sounds as you already do.Best wishes,Al

Hey Al,Wow! That's quite a leap, though I'm already placing my bets that you'll find some real gems and be surprised at the versatility you'll have with this DAW. When I started PT, I didn't have any computer savvy-- I was able to check my e-mail and surf the web a little bit. But that was all. PT was absolutely frightening, to say the least. My husband got it at the advise of a great studio in town, and it sat in the box in my living room for four months. LOL! Then I came home one day and my honey had written a little song on it-- I got curious how he did it, and the rest is history.Honestly, I'm so glad I made the jump. Made the jump into many other computer software programs since then, and I'm glad I did. Makes things much easier in life to have those skills. Though sometimes I fear I spend too much time on the computer. Keep us posted on your progress, Al. And if there's help a small fry like me can offer, I surely will!

Hey everyone hope all is well and everyone had a good holiday. Stick I have both platforms and I have been using Logic I do agree with you that PT has always had a midi problem but for them to copy what apple has done you have so many people that love how Logic sounds and feel. I get that warm sound from it when I mix and I do understand that it is a matter of preference. I just think that they waited so long to come out with PT8 and I don't want to switch to leopard because of my plug ins cant us them in that operating system. But I guess it not what you have it's how you use it.JPBe blessI rock with one name!

Yeah JP, I've always used a more sequencing oriented program along with ProTools. First it was Vision, Studio Vision, and then Logic. I've always mixed and edited in ProTools. I still find it hard to believe there's a difference in sound between the platforms, at their base level. Now, obviously the plugs you choose will sound different, so maybe that's what makes it feel more warm to you. If you're using PT7.4, most of your plugs should still work. The only thing I had to get an upgrade for was Waves. So far everything else is working fine.

Well, I made the switch to V. 8 without ANY problems. I was going to wait, but I finished a project, did my backups and thought, I might as well give it a shot...I'm on XP and I really thought I would have some issues... I've been testing new songs, old sessions and all the plugins and so far I'm very pleased...Definately worth the price...Garrett

I believe I am on 7.0, so when I do the 8.0 upgrade, I am sure I will have to deal with some plugin upgrades (some Waves, which means "time to upgrade the WUP" = mo' money!)
