Quote:Any time Chits.Yes, we do use hosepipes.Lol. All those British slang words are ones I know well. The first one is a part of the male anatomy. Well, two parts actually.Rubbish is also litter.Knickers are panties.Takeaway. I've had a few of those. There are some cross translated words that would get you some funny looks over here.'Fanny' for example. In the US it is your bottom (or ass.) In th UK it's a lady's front bottom (vagina). Imagine telling someone they have a big fanny here!!!!!Pants. We we call them Trousers.and briefs. We call them Pants.Confused?LOL, Jeffe, some Brits once laughed at me when I used the word, 'fanny.' In the South, we sometimes say, "I'm sitting on my fanny today." Needless to say, I blushed profusely when they told me what the translation was. Yes, I knew about all the other words I mentioned too. I have a British friend who once went to grocery store in our area...and she asked for a 'joint.' She said that 'joint' meant a piece of roast beef...so she goes into an Alabama grocery store, and she asks, 'excuse me, but I'd like to buy a joint." Of course, in America, that means marijuana, so they all got a good laugh out of that one.Anyway, I'm signing off...y'all all have a good evening or what's left of it...I know in England, it's probably midnight by now.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I thought the Finns invented hardtack. (I hope it wasn't the Swedes ). My grandma always had a big circular, 12" in diameter hardtack wrapped in paper. Rye Crisp is for sissies. At least we Finns can claim the sauna and the Rapala fishing lure.Ern

I'm not sure where Hardtack originated Ernstinen. I only know that it gained most of its fame from being used by British sailors. You know what. Just for the sake of it. I'm going to be really British today and have tea and buttered scones No jam for me though.Oh this thread is descending into turmoil. What was it originally about?Oh yes. Songwriters and Solitude.Tea and scones could provide enough distraction to inspire a number one hit. Who knows eh?
