Quote:aub, we don't think we asked your opinion. I've been wrong before but didn't you post a PUBLIC message in a PUBLIC forum. I'm pretty sure that, generally speaking, anyone and everyone in any PUBLIC forum, including this one, can read and respond to any PUBLIC post without anyone's permission or invite. It's um, well, PUBLIC. If you didn't or don't want others to read your conversation and/or write opposing opinions to your thoughts, perhaps posting a PRIVATE MESSAGE to the one person you're speaking to would be the way to go.

Well, cripes, you can dog a tune to death, nitpickin' all these lyrics, boys. personally, I think if you're shopping a tune for a Nashville listing and you know it's gonna be a tight fit (ha, what else is new?), any one of us can sit here and say, "this ain't evah gonna get a forward!" But we could say that about a lot of tunes. Me? I think it's right alongside some of those quirky tunes you hear Martina McBride doing sometimes. Maybe not a hit but an album cut if it's done right. Sure it might could use a rewrite here and there in spots (don't change it from Tuscany for god's sake! ) if we gonna get all wicked widdit but I really like the chorus, it does back up the verses and it's absolutely singable. At least to me. But whadda I know?As for country fans and where they do and don't vacation.....I think we can jes stop there before a fire breaks out and the sprinklers come on!

Hey all I hope everyone just moves on and sticks with talking about the song lyrics. Apologies have been exchanged and more discussion will just take a productive thread and make it an ugly one. These things never die unless we stop posting about it. Casey

Well, as for me, if I had known that my song would get this much attention, LOL...I would have posted one with much better lyrics, LOL. "Telephone Call From Tuscany" isn't one of my stellar works, hehe, and to post another song of mine would be WAY too self indulgent right now! Maybe next month. Have to wait my turn. Thanks Stan, Aub and Squids for all your nice comments though.

It's a fine lyric Chits. Once it's put to music, the Tuscany reference may make perfect sense, especially with an accordian in the band track!Hitwriter's just doing the same old thing. Noob with an attitude... Casey is loved by many of us on this forum, because he's a quality human being, that cares about people, and is EXTREMELY helpful. Happy New Year, to my friends. I am smart enough not to try to imply what other's points are, however, Casey may not have used the best insight, (then again, he may have), regarding the intelligence of country music listeners. It is not the buying public or listeners of country music that decide what they hear, it's the walls between us and them in the forms of screeners, evaluators, publishers, music label executives, radio station heads.............My God! We don't have a chance! No, really, country music has to be the toughest nut to crack of all? Doesn't mean you can't crack it, it just really takes some tough skin and a streak of stubborness. I ain't giving in to the norm. I'll write what I want and how I want until they put me in the ground. I stand by my determination that you have a song here, Chits. Put it aside if you have to, but don't let it lie too long. Crossover is good. Hitwriter posted one of my favorite songs of all time. Take that as a sign. Later.

Later.Hey lopcNot to open up a can of worms here, but I tried to explain I was not referring to the intelligence of country listeners. I just chose the wrong word, apologized, clarified, etc. I didn't think some of these lyrics had enough universal appeal (e.g "IL Duomo").I was just giving an opinion on the strength of these lyrics in a certain market, based on everything I've read the past few years. I don't decide what record execs want or what sells. All I can do is give an opinion as to whether certain lyrics would fly the way things are today. There is nothing wrong with your determination to write what you want, how you want. But, you are fighting City Hall and have to accept that your odds aren't anywhere near as good as if you stayed with commercial trends.I don't pretend to have expertise in country music. I only critique in that genre if I see an aspect of a song that I feel my knowledge is strong enough to comment. And an opinion is just that- one of many different viewpoints you will read here. Also, I hope everyone remembers that I really LIKED these lyrics. BTW, whenever I say anything non-positive about a song posted here, I always hope I am wrong. Casey
