Let's see - what's on the radio here at 7 am?Brad Paisley - ThenKenny Chesney - Out Last NightKeith Urban - Kiss a GirlDierks Bentley - SidewaysSugarland - It HappensZac Brown Band - Whatever It IsMontgomery Gentry - One In Every CrowdLady Antebellum - I Run To YouAlan Jackson - Sissy's Song (there's a dead person song for you)Taylor Swift - You Belong To MeThat's the top 10 this week. Uptempo, positive, catchy, hooky, only one dead person song. It's time for another one.I don't think this song is about death or is a downer, at least not if it's written right. It's about loving someone who's gone and learning how to get back on your feet and finding your own strengths. Love songs and strong women songs are always in fashion.Claire

How many of those songs are about talking to a dead loved one?How many ballads are cut by outside songwriters or even songwriters in Nashville?Aren't we always told if we write up tempos that we would cut down 50% of the competition? The only way the radio would play play play the heck out of a song about a loved one dying is if it's better than "When I get where I'm going" and I doubt anyone could write a song about death better than that, just my opinion, and because we can't doesn't mean we suckI think you'd have a better chance writing a fun, up tempoThat's what is always needed soIt's weird as many times as we are told to write mostly up tempo catchy songs the majority still writes the same old same old ballad slow type songsBut hey I'm not going to interrupt anymorehave fun guys

I don't think anyone is arguing with you about whether chances are better with an uptempo, Aaron. It's sort of a "no duh." We are just having fun writing a song. Relax. Maybe we'll get an independent cut or maybe we'll play it for our moms and they'll love it. Or maybe not.

Jun 18, 2009, 11:27am, perrysmith wrote:[need three lines more with similar meter--first two lines will rhyme and third will rhyme with third line of first half of verse--would like to have this half of the verse allow a clearer picture of their relationship before he was gone--does she see something in the room and think back???]"night" Is your (obvious) rhyme for the end of the sixth line, so maybe she still has trouble sleeping at "night". Maybe you'd prefer something less obvious, though.

ok, fine. one dog, no child. or a child that looks like a dog. or a dog that thinks it's a child.I believe it was Gretchen Peters years ago who wrote a song about Picasso from his cat's perspective. It was an amazing song. so the dog has started sleeping through the night again and isn't sitting at the front door waiting patiently any more...hmmm...

The dog's a ghost and doesn't know it. Hey, it'd fit the 'dead person' category. Or is that roadkill?
