Arthur, I think you make some good points. Songs sometimes do have a shelf-life. But, the machine also moves slowly. so, by the time a song gets out there and pitched around, it may be a year or so before it gets on hold. Meanwhile, of course, you'd better have written your next 50 or so songs! To answer your challenge, here are a few of the songs I have had on hold with major labels.
