If this hits 50... what do I win? We can all split it. (I hope it's ice cream, or a trip to the next road rally)

Quote:Apologies mani for my lack of humor.I had to go and play a string of Irish Weddings and you know what paddies are like,no sooner has one fight finished when another one starts!Thank you for the spelling lesson and just to keep this post relevant, what's your favorite bassline on Sgt Pepper.mines Lovely Rita.Bloody Paddies. Always making a show of themselves! Funny about Sgt Pepper. Macca wrote a lot of great standout basslines but I wouldn't say there are many on that album. Not that what he plays on the album is bad by any means. In most cases his lines are perfect for the song. It's just not a very rhythmic bunch of songs though and he ends up mostly playing tuba lines. If I had to choose one, it might be 'Good Morning'.I think George Martin was the most important ingredient in the Beatles by a considerable margin.

Quote:Must.... keep....thread.....alive...need ..... fresh......idea......Ok... who, in your humble opinion, was the most important Beatle and why?Thread is dead.... miss em, miss em, miss em... I beeerieeeed thread... I see a split personality too... In the early Beatles, I think John really dominated and many of his songs are my favs... Somewhere in the pre-Sgt Pepper era, John's drug use and a touch of Yoko changed this. From Sgt. Pepper on, it was Paul who kept them going. On Abbey Road (putting aside George's absolutely brilliant 2 songs), the medley on side 2 is genius and it was mostly Paul. I don't find "Come Together" and "I Want You" to be great... Good, but not great...But in the final analysis (excepting George Martin), the question of who was most influential is impossible to answer. It's John and Paul but you can't really choose...PS I am typing this while on a muscle relaxer for a neck problem... I am soooo druged.... As a songwriter, I should write today.... It will either be the work of a genius or total giberish.. Casey

I think Casey is the walrus... koo koo kachoonumber 50 number 50 number50 .....I agree that the Beatles as a whole is greater than the sum of their parts. I think their friendship (in the beginning) was huge in coming up with all the right tunes.
