Re: Just a request.
Endocrinologist came in the exam room shaking his head Tuesday. Said he's never dealt with ECD and is afraid of what hormone therapy may do to the growth. He did advise that I go to Houston if at all possible. He brought us back down to earth by saying it is a decision between my life and money. As far as the pain in my legs, he said my next step, if Ultram doesn't work, will be the highly addictive stuff . At best, so far, the things I've tried just dull the pain. I still have trouble staying on my feet all night on a concrete floor.Aaah, the trials of life, eh?

Quote:it is a decision between my life and money. Not wanting to turn this thread into a political discussion, but this is one of the aspects of American life that I really don't like. How can the treatment of people's illnesses be dependant on how much money they, (or their insurance policy if they have one), can pay? The right to be treated with the best equipment and medication available should be open to everyone - not just those with money. The usual response is that 'it couldn't be done in the USA', well folks, as long as people keep saying that, it'll never be done. While the UK health system is far from perfect, at least it's there.Rant over.Best wishes to you, Walter.
It's a fine line between a thick soup and stew.

Yes, Walter - we are keeping you in our thoughts. I also have a growth on my pituitary that has stayed well behaved enough to be treated with medication. I am sorry that yours is not as well and, having first hand knowledge of MD Anderson, I hope you can be treated there. Also, having beenin the UK when I got terribly ill, I was fortunate enough to benefit from their medical care - walked in off the street, was treated and was off to the get a prescription within 2 hours - and because that turned out to be related to a lifelong issue that I have (and pay more than 10,000 per year to cover my insurance for) I agree with dgolding - we need to do something so that people like you and I are not going to be choosing between our health and food. Yes, I'm ranting now too.

Sweet wife found out that MD Anderson has, more or less, their own travel agency. At times, patients can get flights free, but can always get discounts on airfare, hotel stay and car rentals. With the church helping, the insurance paying a good sum and the breaks from being "afflicted" , things are on the up and up as far as getting to The Lone Star State. Those prayers are working. Keep'em up.Bless y'all,Walt

Well, I am now wearing my Holter (sp?) Monitor. Had a bad heart palpitation and the Dr. lined me up to have this thing check out my heart rate for 24 hrs. I have arrhythmias fairly often. I'm guessing they have something to do with my ECD being in my aorta in the peritoneal cavity.Man!, this is just getting to be so much fun!!

Re: Just a request.
So, I recorded one stinkin' palpitation, which the Cardiologist says is normal. He wants me to have a stress test, blood lipids test and wear and event monitor. That one is where I push a button and self record "events" as I have them. Okay. Just what I need, more Dr.'s visits!! Go to work today, I start at 3:00 pm, and w/in a half hour I start having hot flashes, hot then cold sweat accompanied by a wierd feeling in my heart like the beat just fades to a rapid whisper (No, I don't think it's menopause ).Called Mr. Cardio to see if this is out of the ordinary. Well, I'm sitting in front of the computer at home. So, guess it ain't a "Nothin' to worry about" thing .Did schedule my appt at MD Anderson today. I gotta be there Aug. 10 to see the world renowned Dr. Kurzrock. Now, all we need is money, a plane ticket, a rental car(maybe), a place to lay our sleepy heads and something to eat. No problem!! Once again. Anybody want to buy some lyrics for, say, $ 25,000.

Re: Just a request.
Had to let you guys know, Angel Flights called us today and scheduled a flight out from Asheville for the 9 of aug..Our church wants to pay for our hotel stay and make a donation to Angel Flight. My family is sending us money for chow and such. I prayed for help with our finances, and others have, too. Man!! God never ceases to amaze me.
