Re: ONE and only ONE song
Quote:Quote:Everyone submitted sad songs (but me anyway). Do we think ballads are the way to go when pitching to a biggie? Or is it just coincidence that so many think their ballads are their best work? Now that you mention it, I like ballads so much that most of my instrumentals turn out to be ballads (sans lyrics). I can't seem to escape the allure of a good tear-jerker. My 'ONE" song would be "Our Love, The Way It Is"http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.a ... -AllenOkay, that was simply beautiful. I can easily hear a vocal line in it. With so many TV shows and commercials wanting simple guitar tracks, I wouldn't add one, though, as it stands all on its own. It's gorgeous even so and would be a great vocal/guitar duet. Reminded me a bit of The Dance by Garth Brooks. Very touching.

Okay I'll join in on the fun. Could use some feedback.http://www.reverbnation.com/controller/ ... lay=trueMy ONE song is track 8, hope you guys like it. But if we're talking upbeat, then track 5 is probably better.

Re: ONE and only ONE song
Well, track 8 has a sweet melody in the guitar but the singing detracts from it. Autotune the vox (not totally but at least get int somewhere in range) and you might have something there. Track 5 would smoke some if you beefed up the rhythm and put some heavier punch in your vox. It lacks the kind of intensity you've gotta have in rap. Pull up your vocals or re-record with more edge. A bridge to add variety might be good too. The end is repetitive, too much even for rap.Me? I'd take the lyrics to song 6, and put 'em in song 1 and drop song 1's rhymes. I mean, how many times can you say "mutha f$&cka?" I'm totally gettin' that swearin' is all dat but you puttin' a whole lot in there. If you listen to radio tracks out now, you know the ones that get bleeped all the way through (due to content) are startin' ta rag off the listeners. That doesn't mean they won't buy the tracks piece by piece, just means that radio isn't leaning toward playing them as much, which lessens your chances to be heard. Same token, radio play doesn't equal sales so if you gotta do whatcha gotta do, keep on.

I'm a new singer, been writing for a while though. Thanks for the feedback. I've got a better version of track 8, but it's at the studio.

Squidlips, about the swearing, all the tracks posted except track 8 are freestyles, their for my mixtape, so swearing is allowed more, If you notice in track 8 there was very little because it was more of a commercial tune.

Then you doin' alright. Keep up the singing.....I liked where you going with track 8, definitely heading into commercial territory (I know, I know, we want to be artists!!) and that can pay off.

If you get a chance, listen to my other freestyles to understand my flow a little better. All the freestyles were don on my home PC, the only one there recorded at a studio was track 8. Thanks again for the feedback.

I listened to all of them. You've got an angry edge that's been appealing in rap, although I'm seeing signs all over the place that there's a backlash against that due to pressure from the wealthy black community (last week they literally kicked a rapper off the stage at Ebony magazine's award show for swearin and talkin fight and usin the "n" word), the talk in the media about it, Oprah's thing goin all on. I'm thinkin' it's the direction rap's going now cuz people follow celebrities and their talk. It might be a huge boost for you to be ahead of the pack with this new element going on, this latest smack about rap.Go back to the beginning of rap, check out the history. It was street rhyme about all kinds of things.....didn't promote the hate and violence it does now. Talked about social issues beyond the neighborhood, openly discussed hopelessness and need for change. There's a ton of stuff going on, politically and culturally that need to be talked about. You could think about that maybe, start getting out a message to da folk about things that need changin' and maybe even how to change 'em, which would put you out there past the politics and into human rights but with an edge. Think Bono from U2 meets 50 cent (and you know how he jes did at the MTV thing, forget Kanye). Anyone doin' that in rap right now would be ahead of the curve. But that's jes me......I know you in a tough genre, tough to break into, tough to get props. And I think you said you were jes cuttin your first show, right? Good luck with that and let us know how it turned out for you.

That whole thing about gettting into the culture and stuff is kind of how my style works. What's on my page is just the beginning. I realize that in this game that if your gonna make it, you gotta make it big, that's the way it is for hip-hop. I have many visions of what I what wanna do with rap. Everyone will just have to wait and see.

Bring it! Can't wait to hear and really glad you're watching the trends. Rap gets a lotta eye so it's good you're seein' how the latest politics is going.
