Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from a distributional site called FightCloud - unfortunately, it's no longer with us, as so many other internet sites have gone away -"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEHollywood Jazz comes to FightCloud.comThe alternative jazz fusion band, ONOFFON is the 25th artist to sign with the promotional company FightCloud and beginning today their CD "Surrender Now" is available from our website. The driving force of ONOFFON, Von Babasin, is heir to the throne of a Hollywood jazz dynasty. Von's father, bassist/producer Harry Babasin, recorded in Hollywood from the 1940's through the 1970's with such players as Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, Buddy Rich, and countless others. In addition, he also appeared in the Hollywood movie "A Song is Born" with Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo. Von Babasin's family talents go even deeper into the Hollywood film industry, being the grandson of Academy Award Nominee, film editor Russell Schoengarth, who worked for Universal Studios on more than 130 Hollywood films."Now it's time for us to promote the next generation of Hollywood Jazz," says Charles Scalfani CEO of FightCloud, "We are honored to add Von Babasin's band ONOFFON to our website."And we were honored to be a part of FightCloud's non-exclusive roster of artists - thanks to Charles and Jack Scalfani for their vision...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from a jazz promoter in Los Angeles, Laura Hart, after we met at the EAT'M Conference in Las Vegas - what a show!"Hi Von,It was a pleasure meeting you at EAT'M and I'm looking forward to hearing more about what you're doing a Drum City! Thank you so much for the CDs. I've been listening to "Surrender Now". Your band has a really rich and unique sound. You have the energy of rock and roll and the melodic influence of jazz. It's a pretty blend.I was telling a friend about the Nocturne Recordings and they were interested in hearing it. Could I buy two copies from you? I'll give you a ring later this week and I'd love to hear more about JazzInHollywood.com.All the Best,Laura"What an exceptioinal lady Laura is! We'd like to thank her for her kind words of support and her passion for jazz...

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from a novelist in the Pacific Northwest, Marshall Dunlap -ONOFFON - Surrender NowReviewed by Marshall 'Doc' Dunlap"I finally got a nice quite block of time when I could sit down and give the type of listen all your hard works deserves. I'm listening to it now and am recording my impressions as they come.First song: Good stuff! I like the music. VERY nice bass start. Good job.Second song: Very nice. Quite listenable.Third song: Reminds me a little of Jimi. Not the vocals, but the music. OK, nobody plays guitar like Jimi but the tune has that flavor. Sure sounds like more than three guys. Power trio! Ok, looking at the liner notes I guess it's power trio plus one.Fourth song: Jazzy. I've been listening to jazz lately when I listen to music, which, sad to say I don't do much of anymore. It used to be my life. Listening, not making. People asked me what I played I always said the turntable. I like the sound of a sax.Fifth song: Just a bit weaker than the first four but I like the lyrics.Sixth song: Nice change of pace. Moody. More than slightly haunting. Harmonica riff near the end fits in nicely. So far the strongest vocally. Humm. Liner notes say you did the vocals. Good job.Seventh song: Fun! Really helps the overall mix.Eighth song: More good stuff. Music to listen to with the lights off. Very nice progression. Impressive build. You guys are good. More instrumentals please! Don't let the words get in the way.Ninth song: Zappa meets lounge. Cool.Tenth song: Water flowing over Zen rocks rounded with smooth persuasion. Clear cool stream. The caress of a butterfly's wing. No stagnant pools.Eleventh song: Ohhh. I like. Great sound. The best lyrics. Makes me wish "Lucy" were here to enjoy it with me. You guys make a good team. How did you find each other? I loved your web site, especially all those great pics of your Dad, but I don't think the sound bites do justice to your CD. I was almost afraid I wasn't going to like it but I really did. I'm impressed. Ittook me out of myself for a while. Your music defies a label.Later,-Doc-"Thanks Marshall, for your time and comments...

Re: ONOFFON
For today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day I would like to present to you an article I wrote for our local newspaper, The Studio City Sun. It was an honor to write this article and have it published, and it has since been republished in four different periodicals, including the Overture, Musician's Local #47 paper, and the International Musician, the AFM paper for North America and Canada -"Hello Von: (Publisher) Jim Kaplan forwarded your e-mail to me and we are very much interested in doing a piece on you and your father and your collective music for a June issue. I would like to schedule a phone or in-person interview, if possible. Some prefer to do by e-mail. Let me know your preference and we can take it from there. Thank you for introducing yourself to the Sun. My best, Judy ProfferStudio City Sun Executive Editor"Here's a copy of that article I've posted on our website -http://www.onoffon.com/StudioCitySun.htmlAs you can see by the byline, they chose to let me write the article myself and publish almost completely unedited. Thanks to Jim Kaplan and Judy Proffer and the entire staff at the Sun for this opportunity...

Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is from the Musician's Cyber Cooler - the site's owner, Dave Jackson, runs a 'Battle of the Bands' for a variety of genres - the rest you can read for yourselves -Subject: Want to Battle? - I got a Jazz contestantTo: onoffon@onoffon.com"Gents,Dave here from the Musicians Cyber Cooler. Way back in May of 2002 I remember I had you guys as the spotlight artist. I recently had someone sign up for the Battle of the Bands under the Jazz Genre. In the year we've been doing the "battle of the bands" we have nibbles on Jazz. So now I need to find a sparring partner for this "battle".Now typically there is a fee. But I want this first jazz battle to have some good music representing the genre. That's why I'm giving you, and only you, a freebie (SShhh, don't tell your challenger). All I need to know is what song (and where to download it from), and what pic to use for your "battle," and we'll get you going in the next Battle starting 11/17. Any questions let me know. If you're looking for a catch, there isn't one. Dave Jackson ModeratorMusician's Cyber Cooler"Wall of Championshttp://www.jammindave.com/champions.htmWell - sincere thanks to Dave Jackson for his kind request - we took him up on his offer and submitted our song, "Mardi Gras" - it not only won its first battle but is still jazz champion - winning four battles so far...

Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is our listing on the EMusic.com site - EMusic.comONOFFON - Surrender Nowhttp://www.emusic.com/cd/10812/10812743.html"In the reviews of Onoffon's debut CD, Surrender Now, they have been put in the same class with the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Brand X, Phish, Patrick O'Hearn, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, and Michael Hedges. If you are familiar with all those artists, you will begin to understand how diverse this talented group of musicians truly is."EMusic.comONOFFON - Your Mindhttp://www.emusic.com/cd/10812/10812744.html"Each song is a feast for the ears, especially through a good set of headphones. With the popularity of soundtrack and compilations growing every day, people are showing they like diversity in their music. Why not get that diversity from the same group?"Our sincere thanks to EMusic for their support of independent artists...
