The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a cool indie only website - Unearthed.com -Unearthed.com: Bands: ONOFFONhttp://www.unearthed.com/bands/O/band4759.shtmlThe All Music Guide - ONOFFON Biography - Written by Stanton Swihart, AMG Expert Reviewer"The music of southern Californian band ONOFFON is hard to categorize, but easy to listen to (which is not to say this is easy listening by any means). Their brand of rock combines elements of progressive rock with straight jazz. You can hear the influence of the cool jazz of the '50s west coast players in their music, as well as the complexity of bands such as Gentle Giant and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, influences the band readily admit to."Unearthed.com is under heavy reconstruction but promises to have even more great services for indie groups like us - thanks Unearthed.com!!!!

ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is one of our pages at TowerRecords.com. While simply being available at such a distributional website is an honor for a self produced group such as ours, the real honor for me is who they list in the "May We Also Suggest" column. There are three albums by Brand X, one by Weather Report, and another by Jing Chi. I already own the Brand X and Weather Report albums they suggest and will definitely be checking out Jing Chi -TowerRecords.comONOFFON - Your Mindhttp://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid= ... "Following their amazing debut, 'Surrender Now' - this second album from ONOFFON really helps to define how diverse these guys are. Starting with the intense title track, 'Your Mind', immediately followed by the serene, mystical instrumental, 'Shadowglass', this CD takes you on eleven different musical journeys. Highlighted by excellent musicianship displayed by the usual trio of Don Lake, Von Babasin and Dave Goode, as well as their supporting musicians, the group also shows it's production qualifications."Thanks as always to TowerRecords.com for having us in their catalog...

Well...Some people have questioned my motives for doing what I've been doing here. I joined this board back on January 23, 2004, after it was announced to me it was opening. I thought this a good opportunity to introduce ONOFFON to the TAXI community. I started off posting reviews that we have received from all around the world. Instead of posting them all in one day or starting a hundred different threads, I decided to post a review/feature/interview each day for as long as I could, without repeating myself. It's been 188 straight days now and, although I still have many more to add, I have recently received some negative feedback as to why I would do such a thing. When a record label tries to break a new group, they throw craploads of money at it. Buying airplay (lately, under the guise of 'advertising'), hiring street teams to call radio stations and request certain songs by certain groups creating a demand for their music, getting reviews in magazines that their parent companies own or influence, advertising in all the right trade magazines... you all know the game.Well... the only thing we have craploads of are excellent reviews and features we've earned from every corner of the globe. Nobody gets anything for saying nice things about us - we have nothing political to offer anyone - nothing but a couple of CDs we've recorded over the last few years and given away more than we've sold in an attempt to create an identity. We've done this on nothing more than dedication and determination. We have pages in places that you don't normally find independent musicians - The All Music Guide, The Muze, RollingStone.com, the new Mp3.com. Why? I don't really know - but it's all come with a lot of hard work. So, thanks to all of you for putting up with me and indulging my ONOFFON SSP of the Day. I won't post anymore on a daily basis, although I do reserve the right to put something up occasionally, as a regular member of this community. Here's the last consecutive ONOFFON SSP of the Day - our page at RollingStone.com -RollingStone.comONOFFONhttp://www.rollingstone.com/onoffonBio"Sonic landscape architecture. Atmospheric, reverberating guitar textures introduce epic, droning prog-folk-rock. These riff-based songs evoke the '70s classics while sax-driven fusion charts new territory."Thanks to RollingStone.com for allowing us a page in their archives - it's not exactly the cover (hehehe) but, hey, it's Rolling Stone...

Von,I think your motives for posting the way you have been posting are pretty clear...it's called shameless self promotion ! Which, btw, happens to be the title of this topic . You even called it that, in every single post.Anybody with the same amount of positive reviews and your kind of dedication could have done the same thing.Let the whiners whine, and rock on !! (or is it "jazz on!!"? - gotta be stylistically appropriate, you know... )Matt

Von,For the first time I have a problem with something you've said.:oI don't recall ever seeing you put down, criticize or flame anyone on this board (other than maybe a reaction to a flame). If you would truely be willing to bow to anyone who would choose to snipe at you then you are wrong.I've said it before, people who want to whine:'( are going to do it whether you post or not. Once I saw you refer to yourself as "The Self-Proclaimed King of Shameless Self Promotion".8-)I say "Long Live The King.
It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere

Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from one of our favorite DJs, Aaron Childs, has recently found a new broadcast home - airing his popular radio show, The Sonic Chronicles, on Live365. He's always included us in his playlists and his new shows are no exception. Here's some pieces of one of his latest shows - giving us a nice plug for our upcoming CD release - I didn't include the entire playlist, just the excerpt that includes ONOFFON -Subject: Playlist: The Sonic Chronicles on Live365.com for 7/30-8/1 Date: Mon, 2 Aug 2004 17:09:09 -0400 Howdy, I'm Aaron Childs. I host The Sonic Chronicles on Live365.com (www.live365.com/stations/aaronchilds), and you're recieving this e-mail because you're an artist or a manager/promoter/etc. of an artist that is being played on the show, or you're on one of the many music related forums I subscribe to. The Sonic Chronicles, plays blues, rock, jazz, alternative, electronica, and roots rock/americana/etc. Below are the details and playlist from the latest show, with some remarks by me. ... Love & Rockets "No New Tale To Tell" The Cure "Just Like Heaven (live)" Nightwish "Deep Silence Complete" Kym Tuvin "Just Like Falling" Onoffon "Shadowglass" TV For Dogs "FAQ" Speakin' of new discs. Von from Onoffon e-mailed me a few weeks back. Those crazy jazz-rock fusion lads from the left coast are finally working on cd #3. I'm sure we'll hear more about this as time goes on ... ... Thanks as always to Aaron Childs for his undying support of independent music...
