Your honest opinion needed of this new MASTER

Post by jeffabbey » Fri Jun 20, 2008 5:22 pm

Juliet Lyons and I need you honest input of this new master of the song “My Siren Song”. At the present time my main sound card has a problem and so I’m using my secondary system. Therefore your input is very important to us prior to submitting the song a second time. Here is "My Siren Song V#8...http://abbeydigitalarts.com/Juliet_Lyon ... g8.mp3Here is "My Siren Song V#6 it is louder in volume but I had discovered distortions at certain parts...http://abbeydigitalarts.com/Juliet_Lyon ... mp3Version #6 is louder but I had noticed that it had distortion points in it, thus I did Version #8 and clarified some of the background effects.Jeff

The vocals sound much better to me. It sounds much cleaner to me. I was waiting for a little bit more on the low end though.... 30 to 80Hz. It sounds really good to me though. FYI - I've only had a hand full of forwards. Good luck,Nick

Hey Jeff,I don't have the greatest ear for production details like this. But the master sounded better .. it sounded pretty good to me.Dean

Hi Nick,Here is a new version with the low-end you suggested. As it stands I'm just taking a best guess because I don't trust my system...Hi Dean,Thanks for listening. I've got to get the song past the "pretty good" point to "the best anyone has ever heard on this planet or any other planet". That's my goal. Jeff

I think you over did it.I would cut it back now leaving it only slightly higher than the previous (might not even seem audible on your system). Then maybe boost somewhere in that same bass range of 30 to 80 HZ in your kick track only....also only very slightly.Nick

Well Juliet,You know the song and its parts better than I, and so I've removed the new low-end version and I need your opinion on the mp3 that you have. This one you posted last. After many different attemps, this is the best one in my opinion and the low-end of it is shaking my office desk. If you have another one of the mp3's that you think are better let me know what they are.Jeff

Hey Jeff, I'm listening to your last version now. I'm listening on computer speakers with a subwooofer that usually has TOO much low end so it's hard for me to judge but A/B to other sources I'm listening to the low end (100 and below) may still be lacking. Could fall into the "matter of taste"category though, this is pretty subjective stuff. I like the song a lot & bet you'll have some luck with it!

Hi Billg,Thanks for taking the time to listen. Nickfever above was making the same statement. The problem is that I doing the master with only four tracks of Juliet's original song and when I lift the low end it starts burrying something else. She has a lot of great effects going on and I'm always in a battle because I don't have control over each one. Thanks again Bill,Jeff

hi jeff--if i remember correctly (and believe me, i may be wrong--i don't look back at posts and some of us old guys don't remember much anyway)but...i think i MIGHT have said i couldn't make out many of the words before. this version is quite good, can hear damn near it all (which nowadays is pretty good!). i like the vox-- damn right i can hear the siren ! the only thing i didn't care for was the twisted vox effect at around :53+ and again at 2:10 --a bit too twisted for me, and bit distracting. (hell and that must have taken work...i certainly don't how to do it...)but hell, very good work!the best, warren

Actually Heinsite,Juliet did all of the mix and effects. All that I've been trying to do is get the vocals out front and get an overall master EQ.I myself was wondering how she had created the effect on the VOX, so I guess you'll have to ask her how she did it. I'm at a loss. However, to my ears, I really like what she did because this song is in the electronic genre. One note aside; I barely had to touch the EQ on the vocal. That was Juliet's doing. I just picked its volume up.Jeff
