Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is a voice from the other side... yes, there are people that actually don't like what we do... Chris of 100% Independent:ONOFFON - Surrender NowRating: 5/10"Biased Review Alert!!! I hate jazz. I hate jazz rock fusion even worse. All it does is wear down the nice rough edges of rock. ONOFFON, while eminently skilled, play this mellow jazz rock that just grates me to no end. I'm going to stop here, because its in poor taste for me to bash a band who I just don't appreciate. Your mileage may vary. People with a taste for this will probably go hog wild over ONOFFON."Well... even in completely bashing us, he still actually complimented us also. The words 'eminently skilled' were used - and, people who like our style 'will probably go hog wild over ONOFFON' - that's not bad for a 5 out of 10 rating...

Re: ONOFFON
Here's a rather interesting review for our ONOFFON SSP of the Day - another post on the OAS review thread -"Well, I had the pleasure of listening to "Weekend in Montreal". Being a Canuck, this of course caught my eye. Well enough of the pleasant banter.I've decided that ONOFFON are actually aliens from another planet........ thats how I feel when I listen to most jazz. I say that because it mystifies me when I hear good jazz. Im not a jazz player by any means and I keep it that way. Hearing good jazz is one of those things that I prefer to stand back and admire........ even though I don't play it, I certainly know when im being impressed by musicianship."Weekend in Montreal" does that for me......I think its great. Hate to repeat what the OAS said, but how great to hear horns like that. And tight tight tight. Amazing time changes and the breakdowns catch you off gaurd (which im assuming is something a jazz artist loves to do to the listener). The percussion is well...........fantastic.Another noteworthy mention: sound quality.........crystal clear, especially the presentation of the horns.I'm having a hell of a time thinking of something in the way of constructive criticism, so that said, im not going to do it. If you gotta search for something negative to say, its probably not all that worth saying.I loved the song. Thanks for sharing. On a note, do you think you could become less proficient players so that I can feel better about myself? Thanks.Cheers,Willy"Thanks Willy - I must admit, sometimes I feel like I'm from a different planet... when I see the industry throw money at people like Ashlee Simpson, I gotta wonder if this might be the Bizarro world... where no talent is really talent...

Re: ONOFFON
Here's another from the OAS boards for the ONOFFON SSP of the Day - a review from a Russian jazz band I've recently encountered -"Hello VonI've sent it to our bass-player and ask him to make a review on yours, because I have troubles with internet (damn slow analog line). He said that it's a best indie band he've heard yet and reccomended me to do the review myself. I've managed to download "Surrender Now" tune. Great performance, you really can create a mood. Brilliant harp playing. I like "percussive" guitars very much. And the "glassy" solo-guitar at the coda (strat?. Very nice voice-chords. Main impression: good music, very well played - it pumps. Good drive. Main thing - creates a mood. Bluesy too. Is it 4/4? By structure reminded me "Lazy". Perfect work, great music, professionaly made, very talented musicians! P.S. excuse my Englishpkabanov"Your English seems fine to me... thanks for the great review...

Re: ONOFFON
Another OAS review is today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day - this time from respected indie artist, Paul Sabo -ONOFFON - "Weekend in Montreal""First off, I must say that I'm not a big fan of the instrumental, except in cases where the music is actually intriguing and as engaging as yours. Just listened to "Weekend in Montreal". I enjoyed the many levels to which this tune had taken me. Very nice. Good production and musicianship. You sure you don't want a little vocals here or there? I will admit the Sax sang pretty well. Good feel and free flowing yet controlled style to this tune. Quite lengthy, but very soothing and enjoyable. I actually caught myself listening several times. Doesn't happen that often. Nice jobPaul"Thanks Paul for taking the time...

Re: ONOFFON
Hi folks - been fighting a stubborn kidney stone so I haven't been online as much as usual - here's a quick ONOFFON SSP of the Day before I go back to bed -ONOFFON - "Weekend in Montreal"Critiqued by Steven Alan "I can say with confidents that "Weekend in Montreal" is a good piece of art. It sounds extremely professional. This song is radio-ready. I can imagine this song being played in the cars of every Jazz loving driver. The song starts out with a kick and keeps up a whirlwind of sax and drum sounds until about 35 seconds, then it slows down letting you soak in what you have heard and are hearing now. The sound of the saxaphone is relaxing during this slow down. About two minutes later it repeats the whirlwind and slow extremely down with very low and soft sound that is very relaxing and moving. Only problem is the artist, ONOFFON, does not know if they want a slow moving piece of music or a fast, stomp your feet piece of music. Can you say "identity crisis?" But that just adds to the magic of it all. Overall 4.5 out of 5 Stars, Near perfect, little to improve upon. Steven Alan, Soundclick, March 8th, 2005"Thanks to Steven for stopping by and posting...
