I'm not a big country music fan but it would seem that if you aspire to emulate another country hit you could probably do better. But like everything else, it's all subjective.

My daddy gets back from Iraq the first last week of August! I am soooooo happy! i love this songthe best part is where lonestar is like "the good lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb":) I agree there are always gonna be mountains that your gonna have to get over. You can try your hardest to walk AROUND them but the best thing is to get your climbing gear out and climb over emm it may be harder and more work.. but its always better in the long run... they are there so we can learn how to climb them...It was a number 10 hit on the American country billboard chartsThe writers knew exactly how to write a hit song, we all could learn something from this

It's a good song, has everything going for it, want a cut, write like it-----------------------I hate to sound like the Nashville panel of last week but the fact is that if this was an "inside" song (a song written by the artist or the producer or the producer's girlfriend) it can be pablum and still get cut. It's an ok song, it doesn't suck. It has everything going for it in that if the artist wrote it it's got an edge on other song possibilities. "want a cut" for us means "write better than it". A lot of us can already write like it - that's not good enough. In my opinion, Lonestar peaked with "I'm Already There" and then started going downhill rapidly into "Mr. Mom" and the like. I think their best three radio songs, in this order, were "What About Now" and "Amazed" and "I'm Already There".Claire

Aaron. Really? Just how hard a song was this to come up with? We'll write a chorus about getting through trials and then will pick a single mom and in order to sort of start the song over again so that we don't have to creatively get through second verse hell, we'll choose a whole new character who has been through trials--I know, how about a war vet without a leg since that is fresh and then we'll do a bridge that has the same point as the chorus --yeah, about getting knocked on your butt cuz it rhymes with get back up sort of. Just really EASY writing. The song makes a point in the first verse and chorus, then makes the exact same point again in the second verse and chorus and then the exact same point in the bridge and then.....I am just saying that relatively speaking, it is a song I would expect me to write, not a pro writer getting a Lonestar single in 2006.-Perry

"There's bubblegum in the baby's hair, sweet potatoes in the lazy chair." Or something like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJlBVlVAaUc

If one has to analyze a song to death, they just don't get it. Untrained ears maybe?

The song's just OK to me. Not much soul, but it's got the "American Idol" country sound that's all the rage right now (that I hope dies soon) and the chorus has a decent melody. Technically, the biggest problems I see are that the first verse lyrically doesn't support the chorus very well, and IHOP at the end of the first line is really clumsy. I'm surprised if it's true that the singer wrote it. Those kind of lines are usually a giveaway that it was a non-singer who wrote the lyrics.

Re: Tell me if I am wrong, but this song sucks
I started writing a song a while back that I called "Me Again" that was about someone getting back on their feet so to speak. The chorus:It's the end of the tunnel, I can see the lightLike a fading flower turning back toward the skyLike a fighter down getting up on the count of nineI will survive thisI've got my second wind andI'm feeling like me againIt's a big fat power ballad. I was having trouble with fresh ideas for verses. Anybody want to help me write a better song than "Mountains" about overcoming trials? Let's do it right here in this thread. Throw out some verse ideas and let's see if we can get something fresher and deeper than this song. Anybody want to play? (And feel free to better the chorus. ) I will at least pay for a nice piano vocal and come back and play it for everyone right here. Leave the melody to me...I do alright there. Does not need to be country. Everyone who has an idea/line used in the song gets cowrite credit. C'mon, it'll be fun
