Yes, I intended the irony. Clearly, I was making a joke when I said that. :)

Getting back to the thread title...

My kids helped me a lot by exposing me to more current music as they were growing up. Some of my favorite songs today are ones I would have never heard if not for them. It definitey opened me up more. My car radio, when on, is not on the classic rock station very much. Many folks in my age group refuse to listen to anything that came out past the mid-70's.

Taking care of my niece through out the years has had the same effect on me, but most others I know in my age group, I already tended to like a much wider variety then they do. Seriously, I can find a multitude of songs from ANY decade and truly like them no matter what the genre.

and Rem, I knew... but I still couldn't resist as I said lol. OH and I have no problem sharing the planet with people that have different beliefs. Bill Maher is one of my favorite people hehe

Rnr - You're a breath of fresh air! Can you imagine what a nice world we'd have if everyone was as tolerant of differing views? So I guess we have a new facet to this thread: Things we can learn from those who practice tolerance!

Getting back to the kids, my boys - now in their mid-20s - are huge fans of the music I grew up with, like the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, and many others. The younger of the two - an aspiring pianist - loves Keith Jarrett, Duke Ellington, and . . . someone named Buckethead. He has transcribed and performed a number of pieces by Jarrett, Hans Zimmer, and Ellington and posted them on Youtube. All in all, their eclecticism has made me aware of all sorts of music that I hadn't known about.

Buckethead is cool. Check out his work with Bill Laswell, another of my very favorite musicians!!!

Hey Rem and Stuart,

You have no clue how happy you two made me by your statements. But I hope ya do now. :D and thank you for allowing me to share the planet with you as well ;)

I'd stop with that, but I feel the need to say just a little more hehe... I must admit, that if I had not had the experiences I did when I was a child, I would find it extremely difficult to believe in God. I've told people on a number of occasions, when I was young, I believed without seeing and by the grace of God I got to see, but now I only believe because I saw. When I look around using my educated, scientific mind, I find it VERY difficult to believe many things that I was told when I was young. I was obviously out right lied too, about many things lol. Did they lie on purpose? nah, only because they believed the lies they were told and passed them along as truth, but they didn't know better. Sadly they never gave... the being most refer to as "God" a chance to teach them different. Although I believe many know him, just by different names.

My Mom failed to teach me a lot of things growing up that I wish she had, but one thing I am glad she never taught me was prejudice. There are some things that I know, so I know better, and I believe, because I saw, I will be held to a higher standard with. BUT the one most important thing I have learned that I feel I need to share is...

The Bible has many flaws, where obviously man, in his own failings, has added in false hoods. But one of the things I am totally and completely sure of is... the being I know as Jesus (could be a different name in a different religion perhaps) is right about one thing. Paraphrasing here because it's our actions that is the purpose of this parable-story.

Jesus said in the bible and he taught me it to be true, what you do to others, you do to me. If someone is hungry and you feed them, you have fed me... it goes on, but I know you two are smart enough to get the point without me continuing on that part. It goes on to say... There will be many who stand before Christ claiming they were of him and he says, "get the hence from me, I never knew you."

I truly believe that I KNOW this for a fact, although I consider myself a scientist, a truth seeker, so I must always be open to the fact that I might be wrong. For lack of better words... there will be MANY Christians in hell... and MANY who never "accepted Christ" in heaven. The reason being... when you fed that child... you fed Christ... he knows you!

I can never begin to tell you the amount of love I felt from God... it's all about the love. Anyone telling you any different is full of it, even if they don't know it.

Good luck in all you do!!!

I've been thinking 'bout this issue a lot recently from the point of view of Quantum Physics: the interconnectivity of everything, and therefore everyone. These issues are scientific, independent of from any religion.

I just watched this video called Where Science and Buddhism Meet on YouTube 2 days ago:

Yep. Plenty of folks think religion and science are at odds, or are somehow incompatible. Actually, they're the same thing; a serious inquiry into creation itself. And hey, some of my best friends are atheists. ;)
