I'm in purchasing for medium MRO supply distributor. My area of specialty is fasteners (nuts & bolts).... which typically gets a chuckle (I'm used to it!)...... But its one of those sneaky commodities nobody really thinks about much until they need them, its a multi billion dollar industry. I used to work for an extremely large global distirbutor, but the corporate game got old real quick for me...... I'm was not at a pay level I felt was worthy of working thru my most my lunchs and taking home work on the weekends for.... Music is my passion in between - Figured since I already own most the tools and spend so much time with it - Why not make the extra push and try to get some songs signed along the way? Chris

I'm the arts and entertainment editor at our local newspaper. I used to be a one-person department, which was GREAT - I put out our weekly A&E magazine (www.coastweekend.com) and didn't have to worry about anyone else. Then we revamped the product, added a Web site and an assistant (who's fabulous, no worries there), and started having freelancers write the material instead of newspaper staff.I still love doing the page layout, but now I have to actually supervise people and make sure they get their work in on time. Which doesn't thrill me. But still, the job lets me have so much flexibility with my day - as long as I press the "print" button on time, it doesn't matter when I do the work - that it's a tradeoff. Oh, and did I mention it doesn't pay PEANUTS? But I guess I'd rather be doing this than standing at a cash register all week.I haven't been able to do anything musically all summer. My studio is being transformed into my son's new bedroom and I'm moving upstairs. I'll be back on the boards more once that happens.Kathleen

The sacrifices we make fo the kids (sigh). I've jammed my studio into a corner of my bedroom. I try not to think about my daughter leavin for college and what that could mean in terms of space cuz I'm gonna miss her so, but the thought creeps in now and again...."if I had that room, I could really get some things done!" My keyboard has to be shoved outta the way so I can get into my dresser every day, lol.

Hi,I'm the East Coast Regional Business Development Manager for the the largest distributor of fire safety equipment. Everything from fire extinguishers, restaurant systems, fire sprinklers, first aid, fire alarms and exit signs and emergency lights. Besides visting customers at least two to three weeks a month I am also repsonsible for a training seminar on Exit sign & emergency lights. I cover from Chicago to Mobile to Miami to Maine, everything east of the Mississippi. When I'm not on the road, my time is split between tending to the horses with my wife, and locking myself in the studio. One of the nice things about covering so much territory is I get to meet fellow dots ....Bob

Hey Bob!Does your company sell to consumers? I'm tired of people lighting a fire under my a** every day...When you get to LA, let's get the dots together. Best wishes,Al

Didger, so sorry to hear of your wife's health challenges; I appreciate your loving support of her . . . lots of people here have compassionate hearts around these matters . . . it's a safe place to share your journey and a good place to feel nourished and supported in your role as caretaker. I produce TV shows, commercials and now movies for Bollywood. I am currently producing a pilot for a children's show highlighting children with special needs. It promotes inclusion and self worth and that everyone is important and can contribute no matter what his or her disability may be. It uses a lot of songs and is directed toward younger children. It's being hosted by Chris Burke who played "Corky" on the old ABC show "Life Goes On". As Chris always says, It's about our abilities, not our disabilities that count". I have a brother with Down Syndrome and a son with severe epilepsy, so I can relate. I start my second Bollywood film next month. It's taking some getting use to, but it's interesting. I also write whenever I can, both screenplays and music. I haven't gotten rich yet, but I do love what I do! Buc

This is a great thread. It is very interesting to read about all the varied backgrounds of people who share that creative fire.As for me, I taught public school music for 30 years (until 2 years ago) and DJ high-end wedding receptions in northern New York. I still work parties but I spend most of my time writing and recording.Bob
