Late to jump in on this thread. Been gone the last couple of months.I was really happy when I could get down to 80hrs every week and it didn't happen very often... Industrial electrons. I've done everything from high voltage down to fiber and logic. They told me I could retire and I said I'm outta here!!! Now I write music full time!Great thread!Keith
I hear the voice of God in a bending guitar string!

Re: What kind of Day Job do you have?
Hi, Just found this tread. So interesting. If we put everyone on here together we could start a large Business or recording Co.I started out playing music professionally with my brother at the age of 15 and 13. I played Bass and he played Double neck steel. He was the talented one. I was just there because he was good. Was on a local TV show in Illinois.with a band. Before that was on Happy Hal Burns show in Birmingham Ala before we turned Pro. After I graduated High School, I went on the road playing with a band for a year or more. Got booked in Midwest for a week the next week would be Eastern stat gig, then back to Midwest. Usually 1 day to travel. actually got an offer to Join Brenda Lee's band when she was playing The Holly Oak in Indianapolis, but turned it down cause I didn't want to let the band I was with on a limb. After the road job ended, went back home and soon got an offer from a group called the Homesteaders formed by Jerry Rivers. Turned it down as I was about to get married. Joined a local group band headed by Jack Simpson with my brother. Boy could this guy sing. Cut a couple of singles on the Epic label. 2 songs hit the charts with one of them placing #1 in nine states on the regional chart. Got to do shows and meet with many of the top Nashville Recording Artist of the time. Ray Price, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Bush, Sonny James, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard to name a few.Got out of music when my wife wanted to relocate to be close to her family because her father was diagnosed with Leukemia. I ended up working retail clothing for the next 20 years except for a brief period in Houston, Texas where I joined a band under Peter Issacson who had a single on the Bill Boardcharts. Got to meet and do shows with Verne Gosden and Gene Watson. After that went back to college and became a Registered Nurse. Worked in the Intensive Care Unit . Worked Birmingham, Ala. then moved to Branson where my brother lived. He was in a group made up of musicians that mostly did Branson shows and at night had a band called Straight Country. They were the band that the Branson stars came out to see. I did the light show for them at nights and worked the Hospital around that. Met Kenny Rogers, Chris Christoferson, Bellamy Brothers, Tracy Lawrence, Tracy Bird, Brooks and Dunn there. What a thrill. After that moved back to Houston for about 13 years and worked for Methodist Hospital in the ICUs.After Mom died 3 years ago, I moved back to Branson. I worked ICU for about 2 years until I blew my knees out lifting a patient. Had 2 operations then a knee replacement, small stroke after surgery leaving my leg in pain and tingling with loss of sensation. Then diagnosed with PAD with 50% occlusion. Had to retire on Social Security at 62.With not too many other options, I thought I would try my hand at songwriting again. I guess we will see how that works out. Just want to say, I have no complaints, I have had a wonderful life. Raised two daughters, both were Ice Skaters growing up, One toured with the Ice Capades for awhile. The other gave me the best gift I have ever gotten when she had my grandson who is 21 months old now. I spend time with him every day and he is teaching me how to be a kid again. My brother lives a block away and we enjoy our time on the lake and fishing.well folks, That's where I am and where I've been. It is so nice to be a part of such a distinguished group as you all are. I have enjoyed reading your treads and hope that we will all become friends as well as members of the music family. God Bless You All

I was a very skilled fork lift driver until july 3rd, according to the reccomendation letter I just got from my boss today.I've always been this working class guy working a minimum of 50 hours a week, never happy in there, just hanged in there. Now I'm a self employed street musician, guitar teacher, temporary dish washer and what ever else gives me more time for music.I've even thought about becoming a sperm donor, that pays about $60 US per delivery.Never been so broke, never been so worried, never been so happy or creative.

I was an IT Manager and programmer (JAVA, PERL, Database design and Programming) and was offered an golden parachute in February due to bank mergers. I then started getting serious about composing and recording and have learned a lot (much of which has come form the talented and wise folks on this forum!!). I have managed to get some forwards and have been exploring a lot of new genres. My hope is that I can get enough forwards and build up an decent portfolio of songs that I can eventually make a few bucks doing what I really like to do the most, music. Attended my first Rally last year and it was inspiring.. I need to suck up more inspiration and wisdom (and a few beers) so I am coming again this year.Marlin

Didn't know about Brenda Lee The steel player in my current band worked with Vern Gosdin, too. I do one of his songs most every show, cuz I'm such a fan. Shoot, we practically family.

Hahahahaha, Les Brother!I knew you'd spill the beans! This is cool though, to let people know a little bit about who you are.I'm an Active Duty Navy Dude / E7 (paygrades usually just let people know you are both older and still don't get paid a lot)but the traditional name for this paygrade is Chief Petty Officer...My actual job is Communications and Networking....So I'm a Satellite Communications and Cryptography guy that also has toknow a lot about IT....I currently have about 10 months left untilI retire from the Navy; which really means go back to college, keep workin', keep playin', and keep livin' the dream ; - ]

Hey MoJo I don't know about other Genres but Country music seems to have always been like family, at least the musicians I have known, and hope it will always be that way. That is what makes it unique. It takes a special kind of soul in country music to love it the way most of us do. It never was about fame or fortune, it was about the songs and the people in it, at least for me. These were Country folks, down to earth and friendly. "May the Circle go Unbroken".Perhaps you have heard of The Idaho Club in Terre Haute owned by Holliman. We were the house band there for about a year. If you're from Lafayette, prehaps you have heard of my brother in laws band "High Sierra" or my brothers bands Illinois Band or Pork and the Havana Ducks". They played a lot in the Illinois/Indiana area number of years back.It is a small world and it is nice to meet you. Say Hello to Tony for me.Proud member of the family. Jesse
