I would imagine it was because they didn't have one handy. Even if they did, they probably couldn't use it because Martin recorded the part at half speed. There's not much sustain on a harpsichord so if you played the tape back at normal speed all you'd hear would be a series of short clicks!

Hi ErnThanks for checking on Dear Prudence for me btw. With regard to Strawberry Fields, I know they had two takes in two different keys (a semitone apart). They used the first half of one take and slowed it down as it played so that by the time the edit came in they were in key. Or something like that!Another Quiz: Which song collapses from stereo to mono for a bit and then back to stereo due to 'technical difficulties'?

Jeez... Y'all are blowing me away with this Beatles OC disorder thing... I'd see a Beatle therapist... Let's talk Kiss trivia or Kansas trivia or general rock stuff, huh?

Correct, Mani! You win one of Ringo's rings! Lennon told George Martin "You can fix it," and by the grace of God he was able to do just that. Amazing.I have no clue about the mono/stereo thing! Ern

We really are a bunch of anoraks. (Don't know if that phrase means anything over here!) The answer to the mono/stereo question is..... All You Need Is Love. It was a live broadcast and one half of the stereo recording got messed up. They couldn't do it again so Martin and Emerick decided to switch it to mono for the few bars that were affected. It's so well done that you'd never notice unless you listen on headphones where it's glaringly obvious.
