Can someone give me feedback on this orchestral cue?

Post by Tore » Sun Jul 12, 2015 7:03 am

I know that Orchestral stuff is maybe the most difficult to make. The big hurdle is to make it sound real. So many layer of instruments shall blend in correctly.
This is the first orchestral ive made. What is good and what is not soo good with this track? Appreciate all feedback from you :D

Beautiful notes Tore! Wonderfully emotional music.

The one thing that jumps out to me in the beginning is that the strings sustain too long, meaning that a real violinist could not sustain notes for so long without changing bow direction. So try to incorporate some of that motion to add realism. Also, make sure that the phrases "breathe". There are usually spaces or pauses between phrases. I've not tried an orchestral piece yet, it is a lot of work and the bar is high for submissions. Yours is a wonderful piece, keep at it!

Thanks Paulie for your feedback. I totally agree with you. I have to do some more tweaking on the strings(especially) I may have spent about 30 hours or more with this one. :D
Nice to hear that you liked the melody :D :D

Hi
I just signed on to get some feedback as well and saw your post. I loved the slow build and then the decrescendo. I'm not a writer of instrumental cues, but I think it sounds very professional and could easily hear it behind a romantic or sad scene.
Good luck!
Les

I think it sounds great. Nice composition and very realistic. I wouldn't worry too much about the bow change except for small ensembles. Pro players can mask the bow change, especially in large groups by staggering their changes. Keep up the great work.

Nice melody and build!

Good for you putting so much time in. A couple years ago at the road rally, I remember a very successful TAXI member advising his driver's ed class "learn to make them good before learning to make them fast."

Thank you all so much for taking time to listen to my track and give me comments. It's nice to have this forum with serious musicians who provide feedback. It really helps. I made a few changes on the track so it may have been a bit more authentic now. :) Thanks Taxi mates
